Prince Rupert Pop-Up Ecology Centre & Aquarium

Bring a Pop-up Ecology Centre & Aquarium to Prince Rupert this Summer!

The North Coast Ecology Centre Society is excited to bring an engaging, interactive Pop-Up Ecology Centre to Prince Rupert this summer. The Pop-Up will be a place where you can come face-to-face with a sea cucumber, touch a sea star, measure how big a humpback skull is, and peer through a microscope to discover the tiniest animals in our ocean. Our trained interpretive staff and volunteers will bring coastal ecology to life for visitors.

This four-week temporary exhibit (July 21-August 15,2021) will use space in the Northland Cruise Terminal, graciously donated by the Prince Rupert Port Authority. Not only will this further activate Prince Rupert’s waterfront, but it will bring a silver lining to another cancelled cruise season.

After an extremely challenging 18 months for everyone due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we can’t wait to bring something new, fun and educational to our community.

We need your help to make this Pop-Up a success! Ready to dive in with us?!

Who we are:

The North Coast Ecology Centre Society (NCECS) was formed in Prince Rupert in 2018. Driven by a board of motivated locals, our goal is to eventually create a permanent education centre that highlights the region’s incredible marine, terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems and includes local indigenous knowledge and language.

To date, the North Coast Ecology Centre Society has worked towards its educational mission by organizing and hosting the popular and successful North Coast Whale Festival in 2018 and 2019, creating a “Live Dive” school program with Triton Environmental, and hosting the “Coastal Conservation” Zoom lecture series in the winter/spring of 2021.

Let’s make this Pop-Up happen together!

We have put together the building blocks to make this Pop-Up a huge success. We’ve secured an amazing team of board members, volunteers and staff that have expertise in biology, education, interpretation, and animal care. We have the space, the tanks, the permits, and the props. Now, we need you!

Your support of this initiative has the power to inspire younger generations, spark conversation, motivate stewardship and bring something very special to our waterfront after such a difficult year. Join us in making this Pop-Up as inspiring as possible by making a donation.

*Any amount is gratefully accepted. Donations >$50 will be acknowledged on our website and listed on sponsor signage in the Pop-Up.
