We are a non-professional community concert band with players of all ages. The band itself is coming up to its 30th birthday.
We usually meet to rehearse our music every Thursday in the lovely Norfolk villages of Repps with Bastwick and Hickling.
Most weekends, during the summer, we are out playing at outdoor church services, fetes and other functions. In the winter, we hold our own concerts and also perform at other venues for clubs, charities etc.
Well, that's what usually happens.
In early March last year, we managed to contact everyone on band practice night to say, don't come to band as we are entering lockdown. And that's the last time most of us saw one another.
We have continued to meet on Zoom and have competitions and music theory quizzes but, apart from a few of us who did some socially distance ensemble playing outside a supermarket leading up to Christmas, we have not met for real since March and more worryingly, we have not earned any money for our band by playing our usual concerts.
The band income has all but dried up and, although the players are still paying their subs, a lot of our ongoing costs have remained constant.
Our band is here for anyone who wants to come and play. We belong because we love to play music. This is not a business. We will soon be in the position where we will need to start selling instruments to survive but with your generous support, we will make it through this and still be here for you in years to come.
