Rescue the Rescues - OBX SPCA

Tax deductible
This is a story about Nora and Chunk, a couple of our canine residents who have or will receive medical attention for their ailments.

Because we are a non-profit organization, we do not have much of a financial surplus to meet the needs of major surgical procedures for our dear shelter animals. This GoFundMe is our attempt to raise money to help cover the cost of the surgeries for these pups, performed by amazing local Veterinarians with whom we partner at Roanoke Island Animal Clinic. We hope you will take their stories to heart, and open your heart to consider donating to their cause.

Nora is our brindle gal who is about a year old, and in need of hip surgery. This sweet lady has been limping around in pain since she arrived at our shelter. The procedure Nora needs is called a "femoral head osteotomy, also referred to as a femoral head ostectomy or FHO, [and] is the surgical removal of the head and neck of the femur. In simpler terms, it is the removal of the “ball” part of the ball-and-socket that makes up the hip joint. This way, the bones of the joint are no longer in contact, which eliminates the pain that is caused by the abnormal contact of the bones in a dog. ... Once the femoral head and neck are removed, the surrounding muscles and developing scar tissue work to support the area, and act as a false joint. ... Amazingly, most dogs return to close to normal activity after the surgery."*

Nora's FHO surgery is scheduled for November 29, 2019. You can imagine what surgery would do for a pup of one year! Her capacity for a FUN life, full of movement, would be restored!

Chunk is our big, wrinkly, and handsome fella. He has suffered a few toe amputations due to infections, one of which we were responsible for treating. Chunk also was born with a genetic condition that caused his eyelids to scrape his eyes whenever he blinked! Can you imagine how unconformable that must have been?! Chunk underwent surgery for a toe to be amuptated and for his eyelids to function in a more natural, less painful manner.

The cost of their surgeries, including recovery medications amounts to around $3,000. Want to make a difference? We are calling on YOU, our community, our supporters, our family, to make a difference! This GoFundMe is to raise money to benefit these adorable, ADOPTABLE pups! Any amount will make an impact. And if we reach an amount over $3,000, every penny will go into our Animal Medical Fund, which covers the cost of heart-worm treatments for our heart-worm positive dogs, infectious diseases, fractures, and any other illnesses or life threatening conditions for all of the animals that come through our door.

Thank you SO MUCH in advance for your contribution to Nora and Chunk's cause & comfort!!
