Roosevelt HS scholarship fundraiser

NOPO Big Band is excited to collaborate with Roosevelt High School Jazz Band to raise funds for two students to attend the Mel Brown Jazz camp this summer 2018.  Band director Jason Margolis is building a strong program of students that come from varying economic backgrounds.  Many of the students have limited access to funds for music lessons or to attend music camps.  This scholarship fundraiser will help support young musicians who are eager to learn jazz and bring their new found knowledge back to the classroom.  

NOPO is a community big band based in the same neighborhood as Roosevelt High School.  As a community band, we are eager to help and encourage young musicians find opportunities to practice, play and perform.  NOPO Big Band  will be co-hosting a concert with Roosevelt High School Jazz Band  at 7pm on March 13th, at Roosevelt High School auditorium.  Both bands will perform and we will announce the winners.  Students who apply must complete an application, essay and a sample of their playing over a jazz standard.  The Mel Brown Jazz Camp is held on the Western Oregon University campus in Monmouth, Oregon.  Students will stay on campus for the week long camp.  The cost of tuition for the full week, housing and meals is $750.  We hope to raise enough funds to send two students.
