Hi everyone! The TCLI Foundation was first established in Nigeria and focused on social change through literature, arts and culture. The foundation worked towards creating a library, coordinating yearly writing competitions for high school students and putting on community performances. It cultivated relationships and learning through educational platforms in a fun and accessible way!
Although it's origins lie in providing additional resources in Nigeria, our hope is to transfer the experience of this literary initiative across borders and introduce it to Canada! Based on its impact in Nigeria in helping students with reading and writing, with an average impact of 100 kids annually since inception 7 years ago. We intend to impact more people. Funds and limitation with books sets a lot of potential youth who are world changers and we know that knowledge brings wealth. Our literary activity has had youths who were considering dropping out define new purpose. This has been achievable through books we provided them, laptops and ipads to perform tasks, and engagement with mentors. We want to achieve this on a larger scale to impact more kids in developing countries though this is transferable globally. The goal is to create an app for children and youth to access a digital library filled with different types of books. This app is integrated in all we have been doing to help young kids, with just a registration, kids have access to books, which then can borrow and return (hence reducing piracy). And they can also contact these authors to garner more experiences, knowledge and mentoring.
The potential of this app is truly endless. We want to fortify community relationships, support the voices of our youth and nourish a passion for learning, curiosity and writing. Education is a very important drive in having a better life, we believe through education, goals can be achieved, leading to the discovery and pursuit of one's passions.
