About Nolan: He’s a trumpet player, and a mighty talented one at that. Since he first started playing in the 6th grade nearly 5yrs ago, he has not put the trumpet down. He is a sophomore in high school. He is bright, funny, and an excellent student, this kid’s about as steadfast and honorable as they come—He has many siblings and many more friends than I could count. Nolan aspires to join the Marine Corps Band (Presidents Own Band) after he graduates. He participates in nearly every type of band possible, Marching Band, Jazz Band 1, Jazz Band 2 (He’s 2nd Chair in trombone) and Symphonic Band (He is 2nd chair in trumpet)! He is amazingly gifted musically, not only does he play the trumpet... he also plays the trombone, French horn and guitar!
This past weekend January 19th-21st 2018 Nolan went to the DCI Audition call backs and He Nailed it!!! Not only did he get offered a contract spot in the band, but he is going for 1st chair against just one other trumpet player!
So, what is DCI? Drum Corps International (DCI) is a powerful, nonprofit, global youth activity with artistic, educational and organizational influence. In Short, it’s Marching Music's Major League!
Why is this so Important?: 2018 will be the very first time that Bakersfield, California’s Golden Empire Corps Will Compete at the DCI World Championships in Indianapolis, IN.

Who are the Golden Empire Corps? Golden Empire Performing Arts is part of the Bakersfield College Foundation, and the Golden Empire Drum & Bugle Corps. Their mission is to leverage the power of performing arts to help youth develop the life skills they will need to thrive in this world by providing unique educational and competitive programs that emphasize commitment, teamwork, and the pursuit of excellence. Why we need your Help? The 2018-member contribution is $2,300. Ouch! A little steep for an unemployed 15yr old student and aspiring musician!
Where will the money go? It will go towards, travel, food, lodging, uniforms, show design, instruction, equipment maintenance, and any other seasonal expenses.
What does all of this mean for Nolan? Nolan will travel across the country with the Band throughout the Summer of 2018 performing and leading up to the Championship Competition in Aug! Nolan will earn College credits for Marching Band via Bakersfield college where he’s now enrolled while still being a sophomore in high school! Participating in DCI will help him improve upon marching technique, styles and types. As well as helping him master performance and practice techniques while studying melodic, expressive Trumpet pieces with master musicians!
Please Band with us (pun intended!) and Help us provide this amazing once in a lifetime opportunity for our very deserving young man! No amount is to small & every dollar is one step closer to helping Nolan achieve his dreams!
