Noelle Nelson was a beloved wife, mother, sister, teacher and friend. She grew up in the small town atmosphere of Noe Valley (San Francisco) and spent her childhood rubbing elbows with her brothers and many friends in Douglas Park. The time spent playing in her early years cultivated a love for exercise and the outdoors that stayed with Noelle her entire life.
Noelle enriched the lives of many student athletes and children first in her role as a coach of the Stanford Women’s Field Hockey Team and later as a P.E. teacher for the TTUSD and Donner Trail School. She was a proud supporter of local athletes and Bay Area sports teams. However, nothing made Noelle happier then spending time with her beloved husband Bob watching her own children compete in athletics during high school and college. Noelle’s enthusiasm for adventure and selfless support of her family, friends, and community was the hallmark of her life.
Noelle was born on January 7, 1955 in San Francisco, CA. She was the youngest of four and the only daughter of John and Dolores Mitchell. Noelle leaves behind her dearly loved husband, Bob Nelson, and their children, Bernie and Mitch, (Gina, Brian, and Leslie) along with her brothers Jack, S.J., Mike and Bill, as well as numerous loved nieces, nephews, grandchildren and too many friends to count.
She died tragically in a car accident on Highway 267 on her way home from spending time in the mountains snow shoeing with one of her dearest friends.
A lifelong proponent of outdoor recreation, this fund in Noelle’s honor will help continue her passion of getting kids active outside. All proceeds will be used to purchase recreation equipment for the Physical Education Department at the Donner Trail Elementary School. There will be a Rosary at Truckee-Tahoe Mortuary on Friday, January 5th at 7 pm.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Assumption Church, 10930 Alder Drive in Truckee, CA.
A reception and celebration of Noelle's life will follow (12:30pm - 4:00pm) at the TDRPD Rec Center located at 8924 Donner Pass Road in Truckee.
