Noble Shepherd at E. Valley Shelter

Donation protected
Hi, I'm POKER

I'm 10 years old and had a home for the last 8 years, but my owner did not seem to care for me much.  I entered the East Valley Shelter a few days ago missing some patches of fur.  My owner said that I had lived long enough and asked to euthanize me, but the shelter staff refused.  They could see that I am a very handsome male Shepherd and thought that I deserved a second chance.

The shelter staffers gave me a medicated bath and I feel so much better.  They are also giving me better food and medicine to help improve my skin and coat and to treat my eye infections.  The shelter vets believe that I'll get my full health and coat back soon.  This love and care is all new to me as my owner never took me to a vet.

Despite my back story, I've opened my heart to a new beginning.  My new temporary people say that I am a sweetheart who has love in his heart and friendly to all.   Because of my medical issues, I'm living in the hospital area away from other dogs, but will be tested with other dogs soon to help me find a forever family.

To our dog-loving community in the East Valley:
POKER is a little older, which means he is calm and wise.  It is heartbreaking that POKER lived for so long without care and without love.  He deserves the love he never had.  We know that he has so much love to give back, but he has never been able to do so.    It is a testament to his nature and to his quality as a dog that he remains loving and noble.    It is now his turn for a loving home and family.

Hearing about POKER's plight, the East Valley community has taken this wonderful dog under their wings and pledged monies to continue his health care when he leaves the shelter with either a foster or forever home.    If you can, please add to their generosity to make his second chance even better.  POKER very much needs to be out of the shelter and in a caring and loving home environment.  Consider this lovely and deserving dog as a new addition to your family.  If you feel you cannot adopt, please consider fostering!
