No! Wahala Magazine is a free print photography magazine championing authentic visual stories by African Creatives. It is one of the first magazines within Africa focusing solely on contemporary photography.

The magazine was founded in early 2020 by Anne Nwakalor, a Photo Editor and Communication specialist based between the UK and Nigeria. She saw a huge issue around 'Representation', 'Othering', the 'Western gaze' and other ethical issues within the global photography industry, especially pertaining to some INGO's and News publication's coverage of Africa; that a form of colonisation still exists, except this time, with a lens. There are many talented African lens-based storytellers within Africa, however, only a few are seen; We are set out to change this.

No! Wahala Magazine is a free print Photography magazine championing authentic visual stories told by African Creatives. The aim of this magazine is to showcase important visual stories told by African talents on the continent and get them seen by industry professionals. It is also a platform where Creatives can learn, be inspired, network and better their visual storytelling skills also serving as a safe space where photographers can share their wins and the difficulties faced within the photography industry. No! Wahala Magazine is much more than just a publication and online platform, it is also a resource that teaches creatives and industry professionals alike about the importance of ethical storytelling and how this can be achieved through both learning and unlearning. A publication is printed and released once a year and stocked in creative spaces and educational institutions. Activities such as workshops, artist talks and portfolio reviews also take place throughout the year.

We are grateful for whatever amount you choose to donate. A free PDF version of the magazine will be sent to those who have donated.
