Assalamu Alaikum (Greetings of Peace)!
As many of you may know, Alhamdulillah we have been traversing the path of medical education for the past two and a half years, diligently attending to details of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and quite a few other "-ologies", and we're now putting it all to the test in the clinical setting. We feel blessed to have been given this opportunity, and know that it becomes increasingly incumbent upon us with each day that passes to show gratitude and humility before the One who has made it all possible.
SubhanAllah, the cost of higher education has been steadily increasing over the past decade, and medical school is no exception. Over the course of four years, students are often required to take out hundreds of thousands of dollars in loans, which are almost always tainted with interest-based repayment plans. This is something that has become a fixed part of our society and current educational system, but we feel that it contributes"”directly and otherwise"”to the overall disintegration of our social, moral, spiritual, and even economic fabrics.
Throughout our educational careers, we have been committed to pursuing quality instruction without compromising on the values of Islam that we hold so dear"”one of which is the avoidance of "riba" at all costs. To this end, we worked hard to finance our undergraduate degrees via a combination of scholarships, employment opportunities, and family assistance. Alhamdulillah, by the Will of Allah"”manifested in these means"”we have been able to come to this pivotal point along our journeys to becoming practicing physicians. However, while the costs of undergraduate study were relatively easy to manage, paying for medical school is an undertaking that we simply cannot tackle on our own, and for which infrastructure to support non-interest financing options is not well in place.
Admittedly, it has not been easy for us to request financial backing from family and longtime friends, and thus the past two years have been filled with truly humbling experiences, as we presented our unique goal and were met with unique kindness. We have been encouraged, time and time again, by the almost-miraculous moments in which support came from some of the most unexpected sources, a display of how true His Promise really is. As such, we feel strengthened in our resolve to obtain non-interest bearing loans to fund the remainder of our educations, regardless of the effort involved, and we pray that it will be accepted from all those who help us make it possible.
Here, we would like to take the opportunity to reach out to you with a humble appeal for support. If you, or anyone you know, can provide a loan of any amount"”we guarantee you, no contribution is too small"”on a one-time or recurring basis to help us complete our last year and a half interest-free, it would be greatly appreciated and forever remembered. If, however, you feel uncomfortable with such an arrangement, or you simply cannot be of assistance at this time, we understand completely, and would like to thank you for taking the time to read this message. We understand that there are many worthy causes out there to give to, and that higher education is a privilege; thus, we are not seeking donations, and indeed would not feel right doing so.
