Help us stop the RV Village at the Quarry in Door County
Organized by Bay Shore Property Owners Association, Inc.
We have raised almost $80,000 through mailed donations. This site lists only a few of our donors.

THANK YOU! The Town of Sevastopol Plan Commission and the Town of Sevastopol Board of Supervisors both voted to DENY the CUP application! It now goes to the Door County Resource Plan Committee. Tentative date is Thursday, February 20 at 3:00 pm. Please be there.

The CUP is filed! Get involved!
The proposed RV Village is a 57.02-acre proposed development along Bay Shore Drive with 117-unit RVs, each with cement pads and the possibility and option of a house on all but two of the lots. The site is on top of a quarry ledge in the Town of Sevastopol above George K. Pinney Park.  A conceptual plan of the project requires the issuance of a Conditional Use Permit (CUP). The proposed land uses are expected to be classified as “multiple occupancy development” and “campground”.

Reasons to Say No to the Quarry RV Village

·   Protect the peacefulness of the area. The proposed development is of a scale, density and design that is completely out of harmony with the residential neighborhoods that surround it.

·    Due to the porous limestone and open fractures of the karst of the Niagara Escarpment, the Leathem & Smith Quarry is highly susceptible to groundwater contamination. Studies have shown that the depth to bedrock is critical in protecting water quality. The effects of runoff, blasting, grinding, erosion, and stormwater drainage on top of the bedrock create significant concerns for protecting the healthy ecosystem of Door County.

·    Blasting and the density of the project create safety issues for the air and water. There are concerns about the environmental impact of this large scale development built on a bedrock shelf of the Niagara Escarpment. The limestone walls and cliffs are primary characteristics of Door County. A dense development creates light pollution, eliminates wildlife and adds hundreds of vehicles to a quiet, residential area. A development this size has the potential to affect water quality.

·    This is not the right location for a RV park in Door County. George K. Pinney Park has been called a “secret gem” and “diamond in the rough” for watching Door County sunsets.

·    Large RVs hauling cars and boats create dangerous situations for people who use the road for silent sports and exercise. Bay Shore Drive is used by numerous bicyclists, runners and pedestrians. Pedestrians include people with dogs, wheelchairs and strollers. Imagine two RVs meeting a bicyclist.

In keeping with the long stated purpose and mission of the Association, the Bay Shore Property Owners Association (BSPOA) is actively involved in the investigation and regulatory review process of the Quarry Development.
