No one fights alone! – Help Anne C.
On December 14, our friend Anne Canfield went for a routine doctor appointment and was shocked to learn that she had a sizable lump in her left breast. Everything changed in a single moment! A whirlwind of tests soon revealed that she has an aggressive stage 3 breast cancer with metastasis to the lymph nodes. She was working many hours a week and still enjoyed plenty of energy to be the social sparkplug for her lucky friends and family. Anne began chemo immediately and faces major surgery in May. She is fighting the hardest battle of her life with her typical can-do attitude.
Anne is in the thick of chemotherapy and admits that the last round "completely kicked my butt!” She is going in to work part time around her multiple medical appointments and treatments. The side effects of this hardcore chemo are extreme exhaustion, nausea and pain - just to mention a few. She is committed to being ‘self-supporting through her own contributions’ but her ability to keep up with expenses has changed.
If you know Anne, she is an amazing woman with a vivacious and unconquerable spirit. I have never met anyone so determined to be a friend to all. She can always make you laugh. She’ll cry with you out of the deep tenderness of her heart. And, she shows up for others – she always, always shows up. Today, I’m asking you to show up for her. When one of ‘ours’ needs a hand we step up!
The bottom line is that no one budgets for cancer. She loves her warm and cozy little home and it’s where she feels most able to heal but the bills are piling up. Besides the expenses of daily living, the medical costs are beyond overwhelming. It’s hard enough to make it through this challenge without worrying about keeping your home. Anne prefers to help others and isn’t the type to ask for ‘charity’ – so let’s just call our gifts ‘acts of love.’ My hope is that we as a community can reduce her financial worries so she can focus on getting well one day at a time.
