<div>Hi, my name is Louise Amand.
</div>
<div>This is a fire emergency.
</div>
<div>On Saturday, 10 September, my husband Diogo and I heard the news from our Brazilian family that our 40-hectare ecological farm Pé na terra had caught fire. The main building and half of the crops and agro forests that fed 60 families were destroyed. My mother-in-law Fatima Cabral explained that they were without energy and water.
</div>
<div>The fire was caused by the neighbour using a slash-and-burn technique, a method in which virgin land is set on fire to free up land for agriculture.
</div>
<div>The fire also destroyed the protected part of the Water Producer project, a restoration program from the National Water Agency. Our spring provides water infiltration and supplies the Pipiripau River, which in turn supplies 200,000 people in the town of Planaltina.

<div>For five years, I lived in the middle of the mysterious savannah Cerrado. With friends and the agroecological farmers' association APROSPERA, co-founded by Fatima, we set up many Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) a revolutionary social technology where producers and co-producers are partners supporting healthy food production without intermediaries.
</div>

<div>This unique and collective experience shows that humans and nature can live in harmony.

<div>Just last month, Fatima came to Belgium to talk about Pé na terra at a conference.

<div>So what can we do?
</div>
<div>First, we want to raise money to replant fruit trees and vegetables in the agro forests for the Community Supported Agriculture group of Pé na Terra. Currently, more than 60 families do not receive food from the farm as usual.
</div>
<div>This would cost around 5000 euros.
</div>
<div>Then, we want to restore access to groundwater. The wells and water pump collapsed. Currently, the four families living in Pé na Terra face challenges in accessing safe water. This would cost an additional 5000-7000 euros (waiting for a professional estimate).
</div>
<div>We are also looking for partners who can lobby international and Brazilian policymakers that the slash-and-burn technique should simply be banned and ensure environmental justice.
</div>

<div>Agroecology is the solution to avoid horrible situations like this. It's the way to mitigate climate change, cool the earth, produce healthy food, restore ecosystems, soil fertility, store carbon and provide sustainable livelihoods.
</div>
<div>There is no time to be discouraged by the sad news. This is the time to act for our values.

<div>Despite this fire tragedy, all our family is working hard to ensure ecological farming can continue in Pé na terra.

<div>Il s’agit d’une urgence incendie.
</div>
<div>Le samedi 10 septembre, mon mari Diogo et moi avons appris de notre famille brésilienne que notre ferme écologique de 40 hectares Pé na terra a pris feu. Le bâtiment principal et la moitié des cultures et agros-forêts qui nourrissaient 60 familles ont été détruits. Ma belle-mère Fatima Cabral m’a expliqué qu’ils étaient sans énergie ni eau.

<div>L’incendie a été causé par le voisin qui utilisait la technique d'abbatis sur brûlis, une méthode où des terres vierges sont incendiées pour pouvoir cultiver dessus par la suite. Il y avait du vent et le voisin a totalement perdu le controle du feu.
</div>
<div>L’incendie a également détruit l'aire protégée du projet Water Producer, un programme de reboisement de l’Agence nationale de l’eau. Notre source d'eau alimente la rivière Pipiripau, qui à son tour garanti l'accès à l'eau à 200 000 personnes dans la ville de Planaltina.

<div>Pendant cinq ans, j’ai vécu dans cette mystérieuse savane du Cerrado. Avec des amis et l’association agroécologique des agriculteurs APROSPERA, co-fondée par Fatima, nous avons mis en place de nombreuses Communautés qui Soutiennent l'Agriculture, une technologie sociale révolutionnaire où les producteurs et les consom'acteurs sont des partenaires et permettent la production d’aliments sains sans intermédiaires.

<div>Cette expérience unique et collective montre que l’homme et la nature peuvent vivre en harmonie. Encore le mois dernier, Fatima est venue en Belgique pour parler de Pé na terra lors d’une conférence.

<div>Alors, que pouvons-nous faire?
</div>
<div>Premièrement, nous voulons collecter des fonds pour replanter des arbres fruitiers et des légumes dans les agro-forêts pour la Communauté qui Soutient l'Agriculture de Pé na Terra. C'est la seule manière d'éviter la faillite pour notre petite entreprise familiale. Actuellement, plus de 60 familles ne reçoivent plus leur nourriture de la ferme.

<div>Cela coûterait environ 5000 euros.

<div>Ensuite, nous voulons rétablir l’accès aux eaux souterraines. Le puit et la pompe à eau se sont effondrés. Actuellement, les quatre familles vivant à Pé na Terra font face à de sérieux défis pour accéder à l’eau potable. Cela coûterait 5000 à 7000 euros (en attente d’un devis professionnel).

<div>Nous recherchons également des partenaires qui peuvent faire pression sur les décideurs politiques internationaux et brésiliens pour que la technique d'abbatis sur brûlis soit tout simplement interdite. Nous voulons faire en sorte qu'il y aura une justice environnementale.

<div>L’agroécologie est la solution pour éviter d'horribles situations comme celle-ci. C’est le moyen d’atténuer le changement climatique, de refroidir la terre, de produire des aliments sains, de restaurer les écosystèmes, la fertilité des sols, de stocker du carbone et de fournir des moyens de subsistance durables aux petits producteurs.

<div>Ce n'est pas le moment de se décourager par cette triste nouvelle. C’est le moment d’agir pour nos valeurs.

<div>Deze unieke en collectieve ervaring laat zien dat mens en natuur in harmonie kunnen leven. Vorige maand nog kwam Fatima naar België om op een conferentie over Pé na terra te spreken.

<div>Wat kunnen we doen?
</div>
<div>Ten eerste willen we geld inzamelen om fruitbomen en groenten te herplanten in de agrobossen voor de Community Supported Agriculture groep van Pé na Terra. Momenteel krijgen meer dan 60 gezinnen niet zoals gewoonlijk voedsel van de boerderij.
</div>
<div>Dit zou ongeveer 5000 euro kosten.
</div>
<div>Vervolgens willen we de toegang tot het grondwater herstellen. De waterputten en de waterpomp zijn ingestort. Momenteel hebben de vier gezinnen die in Pé na Terra wonen problemen met de toegang tot veilig water. Dit zou nog eens 5000-7000 euro extra kosten (we wachten op een professionele schatting).

<div>We zoeken ook partners die kunnen lobbyen bij internationale en Braziliaanse beleidsmakers dat de slash-and-burn techniek gewoon verboden moet worden en zorgen voor milieurechtvaardigheid.

<div>Agroecologie is de oplossing om dit soort verschrikkelijke situaties te voorkomen. Het is de manier om klimaatverandering tegen te gaan, de aarde af te koelen, gezond voedsel te produceren, ecosystemen en bodemvruchtbaarheid te herstellen, koolstof op te slaan en te zorgen voor duurzame bestaansmiddelen.
</div>
<div>Er is geen tijd om ontmoedigd te raken door het trieste nieuws. Dit is het moment om te handelen voor onze waarden.
</div>
<div>Ondanks deze brandtragedie werkt onze hele familie hard om ervoor te zorgen dat de ecologische landbouw in Pé na terra kan worden voortgezet.
