No Hunger for the Younger

NO HUNGER FOR THE YOUNGER

Did you know that 1 in 5 children in the United States live in a food insecure home? That means 20% of children in this country don’t have access to regular meals. Often, many children depend on schools for their only meals of the day. There are many programs that help school children receive meals, but sometimes it isn’t enough and schools are put in a hard position to turn kids away from their meals. This is usually due to debt.

Here in Oklahoma, it costs elementary parents $2.50 a day to feed their children and for secondary parents, it costs $2.70. Oklahoma does offer relief assistance for the parents who qualify, but even then, that isn’t enough to help every child that needs it. I live in the Mid-Del school district and it does need financial help with providing meals. Last year they had an outstanding debt of $3500 when it came to school meals. My goal is to raise enough money to pay off this years debt, so kids don’t have to worry about missing a meal.

With Oklahoma being one of the worst states in education, I find that it is important to help in anyway possible. Studies have shown that children who are hungry often underachieve in their academics. I think we can all relate to an empty and growling stomach and how distracting it can be. School can be hard enough and kids shouldn’t have to have the extra stress of hunger on top of everything else they may be facing.

How this works:

100% of the proceeds and donation goes to the Mid-Del school district. I have spoken directly with them and we have come up with a plan to distribute the money across the district. The district will oversee the distribution. I will be making biweekly deposits into a separate bank account, which is only for the school lunch campaign. It will not be a personal account. Once the money is deposited and cleared, then I will withdraw the money from said account and hand it over to the Mid-Del school district nutrition board. There will be detailed receipts of every donation and withdrawal.

What I am asking:

I am asking for low donation amounts ($5), but with the intentions of having high quantity of donations. After you make a donation, I would ask you to share this with your friends. If we can get two or three friends to donate from one person’s share, then the campaign will branch out and reach many more. If you want to donate more than $5, that would be amazing too. No donation is too small or too high. Remember, you can feed a child for a day with a donation for as little as $.0.40. And at the end of the day, thats all I want. I just want to make sure every child has access to a meal.
