Liebe Freunde, Partner und Familien,

mein Name ist Issa Saleh, ich bin 32 Jahre alt und Sohn afghanischer Flüchtlinge, die in Deutschland eine neue und sichere Heimat gefunden haben. Mit diesem Aufruf verbinde ich eine Herzensangelegenheit, die mich tief bewegt.

Vor wenigen Tagen hat ein starkes Erdbeben die Region um Dschalalabad in der Provinz Nangarhar erschüttert – die Region, aus der meine Mutter stammt. Zum Glück geht es unseren Verwandten dort gut. Doch das Ausmaß der Katastrophe ist erschütternd: Die Zahl der Todesopfer ist bereits auf über 1.400 gestiegen. In der Nachbarprovinz Kunar wurden laut offiziellen Angaben 3.124 Menschen verletzt und mehr als 5.000 Häuser sind zerstört. Tausende Familien stehen über Nacht vor dem Nichts – ohne Dach über dem Kopf, ohne Nahrung, ohne medizinische Hilfe.

Ein besonderer Anlass macht diesen Aufruf jetzt dringend: Mein Schwager, Rohollah Rohparwar, reist am kommenden Sonntag nach langer Zeit wieder nach Afghanistan. Er wird fünf Tage vor Ort sein. Wir möchten dieses Zeitfenster - von heute bis kurz vor seiner Rückresie - nutzen, um gemeinsam möglichst viele Spenden zu sammeln und direkte Hilfe zu den betroffenen Familien zu bringen.

Dear friends, partners and families,

my name is Issa Saleh, I am 32 years old and the son of Afghan refugees who found a new and safe home in Germany. With this appeal, I connect a matter of the heart that moves me deeply.

A few days ago, a powerful earthquake struck the region around Jalalabad in Nangarhar Province – the very region my mother comes from. Thankfully, our relatives are safe. But the scale of the disaster is devastating: The number of deaths has already risen to over 1,400. In the neighboring province of Kunar, according to official reports, 3,124 people have been injured and more than 5,000 houses have been destroyed. Thousands of families are left with nothing overnight – without shelter, without food, without medical care.

A very personal reason makes this appeal especially urgent: My brother-in-law, Rohollah Rohparwar, will travel to Afghanistan this coming Sunday after many years. He will stay there for five days. We want to use this short period – from today until shortly before his return – to collect as many donations as possible and deliver direct help to the affected families.
