Dominica Relief Fund

On September 18, 2017, the island of Dominica was impacted by Hurricane Maria, a category 5 storm. The eye of the hurricane made landfall with the entire island and took away with it 95% of the homes and structures on the island. The once green and lush island is broken and remains a shadow of the beauty it once was. Walking along the streets you will notice the absence of beauty that once was. Trees that once stood tall, now have been reduced to shards. Homes that protected families and were called home have been reduced to mere rubble. The islanders of Dominica are a kind and generous people who love to live life and help others. The 7 of us who started this GoFundMe page were on the island at the time of the impact. We are medical students at Ross University School of Medicine and witnessed first-hand the devastation of the aftermath of Maria. But despite this, the people of Dominica never lost their desire to help each other and their resilience. Although we as students may have lost certain tangible objects, the people of Dominica have lost everything that they have ever known. Their worldly possessions have been reduced to nothing with only the clothes on their back remaining. It is our obligation as brothers and sisters of the human race to help one another in times of need. With a great divide creating more disparity between societies of people, its important now more than ever that we give without any expectations in return. Any donation helps Dominica even if it is enough for a bottle of water as water is scarce on the island. We have a contact that has remained on the island to help the community that raised him. He is a police officer who will be helping us with sending whatever aid we can collect. 100% of the funds collected here will be used for aid on Dominica.
