Hello,
Our hearts are full, but our wallets, not so much. We could really use and desperately need any and all help right now. This sweet dog (we shall call him Lucky) was hit by a car on Roosevelt Blvd on the Westside of Jacksonville, FL last night around 11:30 pm. A friend who was on his way to work happened to be riding by, and saw this pup laying in the road...he stopped not knowing the extent of the injuries, and moved him out of the road. He called us (Rachel and Rebecca), because he knows that we are dedicated animal lovers/advocates, and we rushed to the scene. We took him to Clay-Duval Emergency Vet. While waiting we were on our phones frantically searching Craigslist Lost and Found ads, as well as posting to Lost Found Pets Jacksonville and North Florida hoping someone knew who this amazing dog belongs to or knew of anyone that could help in any way. They scanned him for a micro-chip and didn't offer much assistance beyond euthanasia (even though they didn’t even thoroughly examine him or give us any time to find his owner). Euthanasia was NEVER an option for us. This guy is young, and so full of life. Also, we didn't feel right making that decision, because he is not our dog. Lucky has a micro-chip that is registered to a local woman who has been contacted multiple times to no avail. For some stupid reason since he was found in Duval County not Clay County we would have to pay up front for any procedures. We knew his right paw was broken, and they said they thought his back one was as well. We are not well off so this was just not possible. We paid $88 dollars for them to stabilize him through the night, which meant they gave him pain meds and fluids and sent us on our way. Our only hope was First Coast No More Homeless Pets, which is a low cost clinic in town. We stayed up all night making sure this sweet guy was as comfortable as he could possibly be. I contacted Pit Sisters a local Pit Bull rescue group hoping they could help in some way. Finally, the time came for us to take him to FCNMHP. They seemed very optimistic about his health from the initial look by the doctor. She said he appeared very stable, and that is temperature was normal. They were also able to do a payment plan which is exactly what we needed. We dropped him off while they did his x-rays and blood work. They called back and broke the news that ‘Lucky’ needed to be seen by a specialist for his fractures and that the specialist wouldn’t be able to do any type of payment plan. To note the doctor told us some good news, too. ‘Lucky’ has no internal injuries, only the two fractures. They informed us that our only option was to apply for a credit card, Care Credit. We did that and sadly we were denied. Without the $2500- 4000 needed up front for the bill, we were out of options at this point. Until we corresponded again with Pit Sisters, who have been extremely helpful, and they suggested we contact a veterinarian in Elkton, Fl. We’ve since contacted this place and they told us they would take a look at the x-rays that FCNMHP took and see what, if anything, they can do for this sweet guy. Now we are playing the waiting game with our fingers and toes crossed. We just want to see this dog get the treatment he needs, so he can live the life he deserves! Any and all help received will be appreciated more than words could begin to describe. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Have a blessed day!
