Our son, Darcy, has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
I have stage 4 colorectal cancer, metastasized to the bone.
Neither disease has a cure. We have lived with Darcy’s diagnosis for a decade, my current diagnosis is a few weeks old.
My extraordinary husband, Mark, is a school Principal in Creemore - a devoted community leader and father. Our eldest, Hunter, humbles us with his level head and sense of humour every day. The tenacious but adorable Darcy has a life lesson for us every minute it seems, and his sassy dog, Boston, brings us joy.
I am Australian and an adopted child of Canada. We are an international family; currently embraced by our Collingwood community, having moved from our beloved circle of family and friends in Toronto for a better quality of life for Darcy. Most of my family lives in NSW, and my roots are strong there…I love going home and my little foursome feel it is just as much theirs as mine. International family, like I said:)
We have a wish, and are humbly asking for your help. We want to create a backyard oasis - pool, fire pit - a place where family and friends can come to us, make memories with us, laugh with us. We want our house to be our castle. Darcy is confined to a wheelchair, water is his freedom. I am a child of the summer, water is in my soul. Hunter loves company, Mark loves us. Our diseases will most likely keep us close to home, so we want the world to come to us.
