Katharine Kramer's Cancer Fight

My name is Sarah O'Connor and this is for my friend "Kit Kat." Referring to Katharine Kramer aka “Kat” as my friend seems so trivial when she is so much more to me than that. She is my Sister, Therapist and Confidant all rolled up in one. She is the strongest person I know. This is a woman who has LITERALLY given me the clothes off her back and a place to stay when I was getting on my feet. Lately, the strongest person I know is in the fight of her life and I feel completely helpless. On November 19th she was scheduled to have surgery for an ovary problem that has plagued her with pain for years. It was supposed to be one day surgery and she would be out of work for 1 week. Turned out there was a tumor on her appendix and they stopped surgery and had to find a new surgeon and do an impromptu surgery.  She had to stay in the hospital for an unplanned 4 days. As a mom and a wife you can only imagine the stress this unplanned 4 day stay put on her and her family. When she was finally able to leave she developed fevers and what looked like an infection and went back to ER for emergency CT.Scan. Two weeks later she had to go back because the incision wasn't healing. Wound up out of work for an unplanned 9 weeks. While out her OB sent her for a mammogram because she was overdue and on January 9th she received the call that no one wants to get- it was breast cancer. The plan the doctor presented was for her to have a lumpectomy right away and get radiation and possibly chemo. The lumpectomy and lymph node removal was on February 9th At this point Kat has run out of days off and had to return to work right before her surgery. The plan was for Kat to have radiation AFTER she heals from surgery but she can’t get that yet because the doctors called and told her they did not get all the Cancer. She must have another surgery. New surgery date Monday March 2nd. 3-5 weeks after this surgery radiation begins 5 days a week. Kat is 43 years old and has not really had time to process any of this. For those that have dealt with Cancer, you have to mentally prepare, get your family and affairs in order. Due to the unexpected nature of this she has not had that time. She had to hurry up and heal from the appendix surgery and get back to work.  Add to that she has no more days off. She is actually in the negative on her vacation days so that means she has not been paid in quite some time. This also means she must go to work while having radiation treatment and for those of you that know, this will be a very stressful and tiring time while also being a mom and a wife. She has mounting medical bills and household bills so I am reaching out to our network of family and friends asking for your help. Anything you can give will be appreciated. The more stressed out Kat stays the harder her recovery and she is incredibly stressed out. For those that know Kat, know that she is the original Wonder Woman!
