Help educate children in Acandi

Donation protected
My name is Kepa Danobeitia. I am a retired seaman that
looking for a peaceful place to live, decided to move to Acandi, a coastal economically ungifted village in the Colombian department of Choco.

Shortly after arrival, I met my neighbor Demetrio, a 70-year old year fisherman, who was very helpful in my new fishing experiences. Through our conversations while we were fishing, I discovered that he survives on a 40 US monthly Government subsidy plus whatever fish he could catch with his old wooden canoe. I must note that this canoe is in such a bad shape, that I am afraid it will sink sooner than later.

In addition, I also learned that he is in charge of his wife Rosa, an old Kuna indigenous woman who can hardly move and their daughter Indira, mother of three kids of three different fathers (whereabouts unknown). The youngsters are Daniel 12, David 10 and Dylan 5 years old.

Daniel is a bright young man, attends school and is doing reasonably well. On the other hand, David and Dylan have never attended school and the most concerning aspect of their situation is that they spend their days running into mischief around the village, with a gang of kids of their age and condition.

According to Demetrio, the reason for this situation is, that although education is supposed to be free in this area, he needs to cover the cost of uniforms and supplies out of his own pocket. Unfortunately, this is something out of reach. No need to describe the slum where they live nor the difficulties and malnourishment these children face on a daily basis.

Therefore, the reason for this campaign is to raise funds to help ensure these kids will attend school and receive a proper education while equipped with the necessary school gear and nutrition they need during the school year. This is just an attempt to improve the living conditions of a family in adversity and I’m sure it will not be an easy task. However, you can rest assured that I will give it my best effort and administer the funds you so generously donated in a rational manner.

Your kind donation will go a long way in helping these children get a head start in life. Any support you could afford to this cause, will be highly appreciated.
