Nine Island Kids Need Your Support

On October 31st of 2019, nine island youth were victims of a horrifying accident caused by a drunk driver's collision with the rear of their vehicle.  As a result of the ensuing crash, all nine youth suffered extensive injuries. In particular, seven people were transported immediately to Harborview Trauma Center. With emergency services overwhelmed, two other injured youth, who should have been assessed at the scene and transported to an emergency room for evaluation, followed up at Swedish Medical Center the next day. The diagnosed injuries included a concussion in nearly all present, as well as a major head wound requiring in excess of 50 staples to close that resulted in a multiple day admission to Harborview’s ICU. The driver of the vehicle sustained two broken ribs, and other passengers suffered broken vertebrae, massive bruising, and an ankle broken in four places, along with a modicum of other minor and more severe cuts and injuries. The resulting recovery and mental trauma has left many of us unable to return to school or work, leading to lost wages amid the onslaught of medical bills. As many of us are young, and from single parent homes or otherwise low income families, there has been a struggle among each family to make ends meet in these recent weeks.


With this fundraiser and your support, we hope to raise $5,000 for each afflicted passenger, with the remaining $5,000 covering GoFundMe’s site costs and takeaway, the leftover portion of which will be allocated equally among the injured parties. This money raised will allow us to make payments on medical bills, as well as our costs of living as we go into this holiday season.
