Help Niko March Drum Corps!

Hi everyone!

My name is Nikolas Matsamura, I am currently 16 years old, and a Junior at James Monroe Senior High Law & Government Magnet. This summer I will be taking part in a huge production with the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps. I have been chosen to be one of only 36 members of the color guard, and this opportunity of a lifetime does not come cheap. Your support could help me start my dream.

Throughout High School, I have taken part in an activity called color guard which consists of specific routines with flags, rifles, and sabres along with ballet and other dance forms. As a freshman, I joined Winter Guard and I fell in love with it. It allows me to escape from all the stress and difficulties and just perform my heart out, even to the unexpecting stranger. Last year I joined a group outside of my high school called Icon Winter Guard, where I got to experience what Color Guard truly is outside of the San Fernando Valley walls. We traveled all across Southern California, and even Las Vegas for a regional competition. For the first time, our group went to Winter Guard International Championships in Dayton, Ohio and it was an experience I could never forget. I was in the midst of amazing performers all across the world: Japan, Netherlands, etc. This year Icon Winter Guard had an amazing season ending with a Gold Medal at WGASC Championships at UC Irvine. This year the Santa Clara Vanguard will visit 16 states and compete in 28 competitions abroad. We travel the country on multiple buses and trucks consisting of core members, staff, volunteers, and our equipment. We sleep on high school gym floors throughout the tour and practice over 14 hours a day until World Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana. This will be my first time EVER marching in any Drum Corps and I'm very eager to learn and grow with the Santa Clara Vanguard.

Color Guard has introduced a whole new meaning in my life, and now it brings endless possibilities in the near future. With so many opportunities comes more responsibilities. On average, drum corps is over $3000. With my mother suffering from Coccidioidomycosis (Valley Fever) and being a single mother with no other support of any other kind, it is a miracle she is able to provide for not only herself and I but also my 4 older brothers. She has been my foundation, my role model, and my inspiration. My goal of $1500 will pay for some of my fees, plane tickets, and four months of on-tour necessities. With your support I could start the summer of my dreams with the Santa Clara Vanguard. Any donation will substantially help make this dream a reality. Please, please, PLEASE share this link with your friends and family! A simple share is equally as helpful as any monetary donation.

Thank you so much for taking your time and your support. I would greatly appreciate any and all help I can get.

-Niko

Drum Corps is an activity unlike any other art form, that combines brass, percussion, and color guard into one theatrical performance. With over 150 members in each corps, each year, they work together in building a program to debut among thousands of audiences across the nation. For nearly half a century, Drum Corps International (DCI) has been the reigning organization in the activity. The Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps is only one of many in the world-class divisions but a dream to be a part of. Here's a link to their 2017 program entitled; "Ouroboros"
