Dear Family and Friends

As many of you know, Stephanie and Nikolaos (Nik) started off 2017 with their dream wedding in January and moved into their home together in March.  They then prepared and saved for their dream honeymoon and left for Greece where Nik was born so they could have a small second wedding reception with extended family. While on their honeymoon an unexpected and serious medical emergency occurred. Nik’s intestine ruptured resulting in severe pain and mass infection to his internal organs.

·         He underwent one major surgery and they would later learn the infection had spread resulting in a second surgery where bowel and other organs damaged by infection and the onset of gangrene had to be surgically removed.

·         The emergency colonoscopy and surgery means a prolonged medical stay and Nik’s inability to return to Canada until the end of June at the earliest.

·         He will be unable to work for a minimum of 8 months and remains at high risk for further infection and is medically vulnerable which is particularly concerning considering his present weakened and critical state.

·         Stephanie, a new social worker in her field, has been granted an unpaid medical absence from work so she will not be forced to leave the bedside of her new husband who is confined to a hospital bed in Greece.

While they have travel health insurance they are currently paying for out of pocket expenses until, or if, their insurance reimburses them for what will inevitably be a small portion of their overall expenses.  There are a number of expenses not covered by insurance that this young couple will have to face in the upcoming weeks and months such as increased travel expenses and a significant loss of income while he is monitored and receives ongoing medical treatments in a Greek hospital.  While this couple saved for what should have been a once in a lifetime honeymoon, they could not have imagined or prepared for the expenses and life changing events they would encounter on their trip while being thousands of miles from their family and friends at home.

Family and friends of this couple please continue to pray and consider if you can donate to help them get through this difficult time.  If you are unable to donate please pray and send positive thoughts as they have a long road to recovery ahead. Thank you for your generosity as it will not be unnoticed and will make a tremendous difference in their lives.

Let’s send a message of love and hope to this young couple.
