Nikki Yano & Family - Cancer Fund

Dear friends,
A few months ago Nicole (or Nikki as we call her), who at the time was 6 months pregnant with her second daughter, was diagnosed with a Stage IV cancer that had spread aggressively and metastasized to her internal organs.
Fortunately, the doctors were able to immediately deliver Nikki’s beautiful daughter Ella, and then operate on one of the large tumors that was attached to Nikki’s appendix, fallopian tubes, ovary and intestines.
Despite being born early, Ella is now a thriving, stunning girl and an absolutely beautiful little snuggle-bug.
For Nikki, unfortunately, the cancer is systemic, and she is currently undergoing twelve rounds of chemotherapy in hopes that she will be a candidate to have surgery on another tumor around her cervix.
For anyone that doesn’t know Nikki, we want to tell you that she is a genuinely wonderful, straightforward, and honest person, who is always ready to laugh. Being in her presence brings a kind of certainty and clarity that is hard to come by. If you’re fortunate enough to know Nikki, you’ll know that she isn’t one to ask for help. But this is a time of deep struggle, and we really wanted to do something for her and her family.
Nikki is no longer able to work, and her wonderful husband, Francis, has also had to stop working so that he can care for Nikki and their two beautiful girls. With your support, we hope to ease their financial burdens; any extra money that isn’t used during this time will go to support their children, Thalia (age 3) and Ella as they grow up.
Nikki is a loving, compassionate mother and wife, a talented garden designer and grower, and a huge lover of rugby. She grew up in the Cowichan Valley and now lives in Victoria with her young family. Many of you know Nikki from her involvement in athletics over the years, and through her amazing parents who have had a long-standing commitment to community in the Cowichan Valley. We are in awe of how gracefully she is handling these beautiful spring days despite only having the strength to go outside and enjoy nature on rare occasions. She is remarkably strong-willed, and in her words “taking it day by day”.
