<div>Met onze onderneming, de Bachsociety, willen wij in de nacht van 4 op 5 december a.s. een klassiek concert geven in de Laurenskerkte te Rotterdam. Het concert betreft een uitvoering van het Requiem van W.A. Mozart, die in de nacht van 4 op 5 december 1791 om precies 0.55 uur overleed. Mozarts Requiem, dat hij voor zijn eigen dood schreef, duurt ongeveer 55 minuten. Het concert dat wij willen geven, zal even na middennacht beginnen en het zal, los van de vraag of het einde van het stuk al is bereikt, om precies 0.55 uur, t.w. het moment van Mozarts overlijden, abrupt stoppen, waarna in de serene stilte van de kerk een dodenbelletje zal rinkelen en kaarsjes zullen worden gebrand, precies zoals dat in Mozarts tijd gebruikelijk was. Zo mogelijk worden de klokken van de kerk dan ook enkele malen geluid.

<div>Het idee om Mozarts Requiem in de nacht van Mozarts overlijden uit te voeren, is afkomstig uit Wenen waar het al vele decennia elk jaar op precies deze manier (dus op hetzelfde tijdstip en de plotse stilte om precies 0.55) wordt uitgevoerd. Het Night Requiem van Mozart wordt in Wenen door mensen van over de gehele wereld bezocht en de reacties zijn lovend. In Nederland is het concept voor zover wij konden nagaan nog niet bekend, reden waarom wij het in Nederland (in Rotterdam ) gaan introduceren met de bedoeling er een jaarlijks terugkerend evenement van te maken.
