Nige' Needs Therapy!

I NEED HELP!

Let's be honest, to any of you that know me, this will come as no surprise! Ahem.

The FUNDS

I'm aiming to raise £9,000 to support my Conscious Psychology studies using my photography as Rewards!
[Note: Please note this target sum excludes any reward production costs. Scroll down to see all donation REWARDS' details]

Approximately 18 months ago, I took a leap of faith, and committed myself to what will be my final career chapter by enrolling on The Optimum Health Clinic's  groundbreaking Therapeutic Coach training programme.

This sum effectively equates to the course fees, accommodation and travel expenses incurred throughout the monthly course weekends and supervision trips to London during what will approximately be a 2.5 year training period. During this time there will be no charge to any of my practice clients. I have no other source of income. I'm a pure outgoing; a, umm, continuing financial liability! But, with your generous support, raising this money will help me to potentially enter the world of therapeutic coaching without considerable student debt when, er, technically, I should be considering retirement! Ha!

Genuinely, I would be beyond humbled by any level of support anyone is prepared to offer me; large or small, let's hopefully make a dent.

IMPORTANT: There is no obligation to take up any reward to make a donation [bearing in mind, aside from the PDFs, all rewards will incur production, postage and packing costs to me]. Therefore, please make it clear in your donation COMMENT which reward, if any, you choose. [If you're unsure of anything, please feel free to email: [email redacted]on.co.uk  You will also need to email an address to receive any rewards required to be sent by post.]

The Backstory [on the road to here]

Those of you who know me well will be aware that I've suffered with a chronic health issue for rapidly approaching three decades. [I don't propose to bore anyone with the details here, but you can read a related blog should you wish to enlighten yourself further here.] Essentially, and despite embarking on a successful career as a Construction Project Surveyor, the health crash in my late 20's subsequently restricted my working life to somewhere between sporadic and eventually part-time, so finances have always been ... tight.

During the past 16 years I've worked part-time in a local high school, evolving into a teacher of English as an Additional Language; a role that was as much pastoral and mentor as it was teaching English. For much of that time I also worked out of Room 4 with the school counsellor supporting the school's vulnerable kids, too.

I can honestly say, those years were undoubtedly the most rewarding - yet poorly paid! - years of my working life. And I wouldn't change them for anything.

However ... the only constant in life is change. Psychology, counselling and therapy has always been close to my heart, and for much of the past 25 years I've dipped toes in foundation study but never found myself in a position to be financially secure enough to commit to the deep end training. However, following some big changes at the school, and an increasing realisation that the time was now ... or never, I took the leap of faith.

How can you help? Why help?!

Well, I think it's fair to say, life circumstance ripped me away from a potentially myopic and financially focussed career - a realisation made both personally and via the great many of the people I met whilst wearing my construction career hat. Since then, I think it's equally fair to say I've discovered my true self, by intuitively and compassionately warping, uh, I mean 'guiding' young minds ... what began as an intended temporary job, which itself occurred by pure happenstance, somehow lasted 16 years.

And as Charles Dickens, uh, almost wrote, with great unexpectations via the curious gift of CFS/ME, I slowly recalibrated priority and perspective, and took them along with evolving patience and humility into teaching kids from all four corners of the world [inc. many from difficult personal circumstance, as well as inflicted tragic circumstance from troublespots like Syria and Afghanistan], and I found the simple life-affirming beauty of compassion and altruism.

However, without the dedication of my wife, Sue, to stick by my side, frankly, I'm not sure where I might be now. And part of the motivation for this final chapter is for her, too; to ultimately open my final working years to possibility and, hopefully, greater financial security and flexibility. Personally, I have very little; I have no pension; but what I do have is the passion to reach for this future. Fully. Completely. And I'm determined, in gathering all the wisdom I've accumulated along the way, to continue helping others, of all ages, on their own life journey.

THE REWARDS

The rewards idea to support donations was a relatively simple choice. For many years I've considered compiling my street photography into a collection. Occasionally, much to my pleasant surprise, some of you have even requested it! Even more surprising, others have even requested having some of my writing in book form too! So, to that end, I've essentially curated two books* as the main rewards, along with a set of greeting cards [blank inside] and a limited edition fine art print.

[*I'm also indebted to my great friend David Lewis-Baker for helping with curation of The Road To Here and continued encouragement and wise words in getting this project realised. Dave also took the photo at the top of the page!   : )]

OR...

A signed copy of The Instagram Photos  & Other Stories

A painstaking 248 page [Small Square, 7×7 in, 18×18 cm softcover] compilation of my photography* and impromptu caption writing during my six years on Instagram. Painstaking, in the sense that I couldn't find anyone willing, or daft enough - as I subsequently realised myself - to potentially edit down 1600+ posts to about 125. [But thanks, Marianne, for at least starting, before suffering those serious bouts of light-headedness and nose bleeds!]

You can see a preview of the book here.
[IMPORTANT: Do not buy any books directly from Blurb. Thank you kindly!]

*Note: None of the images contained in this book are found in The Road To Here.

At The Zoo : Watching The Animals

The Fine Art Print: In many ways, this is the image that started it all, for me. It was taken on my first roll of film when a visit to the zoo - which began with an intention to take images of the animals - saw me turn my lens on us. At the end of that summer I began studying Foundation Photography at Filton, Bristol; a trip to London took in an Elliott Erwitt  exhibition, and my photographic passion was lit.

Polite REMINDER: There is no obligation to take up any reward to make a donation [bearing in mind, aside from the PDFs, all rewards will incur production, postage and packing costs to me]. Therefore, please make it clear in your donation COMMENT which reward you choose. [If you're unsure of anything, please feel free to email: [email redacted]on.co.uk  You will also need to email an address to receive any rewards required to be sent by post.]

DELIVERY OF REWARDS

As stated, each reward level has a fairly significant cost to me. However, in order to gain the best potential return from all levels of generous donation, I've initially taken delivery of a small bulk order discount of 5-each of the smaller books [excluding Deluxe version]. Therefore, if I don't sell all these, then I'll be in a self-dug deepening hole!

This also means, if you make a donation and only request a book, I'm likely to be able to mail this to you quite quickly 'while stocks last', as it were. Otherwise, it's my broader intention to collect donations throughout the summer and deliver/mail out all initial rewards by the end of August. [The actual campaign will likely remain live after this date, whereby any further delivery commitments will be clarified.]

Final Footnote for ABOVE & BEYOND!

If I should find myself in the wholly unimagined position of donations continuing above and beyond the £9,000 target, any additional sums raised will then be put towards the future business start-up costs [and anything beyond £15k may possibly involve the retirement of the now seriously ailing legend that is my 21-year-old Ford Puma! Which, if it were a horse, would've undoubtedly been shot at least five years ago; and if I were a horse, you would've ideally been using me for glue for more than a decade; I'd be that annoying glue that, despite what the ad suggests, never sticks anything to anything, except on the day you go to eventually throw it out and it sticks to your fingers!  ... ... ...

Huh? Oh, sorry. I was just imagining myself as a horse there ... you should probably just ignore me now.
