Nieves Family Hurricane Rescue Fund

Hello everyone and thank you for visiting our gofundme page! As many of you have heard Hurricane Maria has left devastated Puerto Rico and its surrounding territories. As a result of the damages and the destruction, many Puerto Ricans have suffered incredible losses to their property, to their health, and to their well being. My family is one of these families, and we have been incredibly afflicted by the destruction of this powerful, category 5, hurricane. Maria hit my hometown of Dorado almost on the dot, and as a result we have lost almost everything besides what we now carry on our backs. In the days following the hurricane, the extent of the damages came to light, as our town transformed before our eyes. My family and I watched as businesses were looted and violence erupted, and since the hurricane we have survived off of only water and bread, most of which we ration throughout the day so that it will last. Now, my wife, Gladys, and our four children Joseph (17), Aly (13), Alexander (5), and Marcos (4 months) are homeless, carless, clothingless, and struggling to regain any hope for our future. Furthermore, my offices in Dorado were also greatly damaged, leaving very little chance that I will be able to start working at them again until they are repaired.

As a result, the privilege of an income and basic life necessities are not currently on our horizon, and likely won’t be until we arrive in the United States, where we can hopefully rebuild our lives to some extent. We have been able to secure housing in the U.S. as guests of our very dear friends, yet we still lack very basic life essentials, and with three children and a 4 month old baby, the low cost of clothing and diapers even seem expensive. For this reason, I have chosen to open up this account, to hopefully raise enough money to purchase food, clothing, diapers, a car rental, medicines, and other basic living necessities, all of which we have lost from the hurricane. Though we are blessed to be staying with our friends, it is improper for us to expect them to fully fund our stay, and for this reason, I am hoping to raise some money independently. At this point, receiving funds is absolutely essential so that we may begin again.
