Donation protected
We are still working to cover the costs of Nico’s funeral.  Please share or donate as we are almost there!

I’m am heartbroken to preface this original story with the news that Nico has passed away.  Please still donate if you can or share as on top of the medical expenses the funeral expenses are needed also.  Rest In Peace Nico!

Hello Everyone, my name is Andrew and I am the brother to Maggie and Nico (pictured).  As some of you know Nico was diagnosed with Liver Cancer just about a month after arrival in the US.  They have been fighting so hard together since June, but the aggressive nature of the cancer has made each step forward have more steps backward.   They have have a new immunotherapy to try and are still fighting regardless of what God chooses his fate to be.  With that said, costs are coming in and they need our help.  Please donate what you can to help them. Our goal of $20k and more details of their story are below.

Sometimes God’s plan isn’t the plan you expected or wanted.

Nico is from Northern Ghana and just arrived in the United States in May to join his wife Maggie, so they could start their married life together in full. An amazing family man and a man of tremendous faith, he met Maggie when she was traveling in Ghana in 2016. Maggie traveled back to Ghana many times to meet Nico’s mother and family and to become a part of his community.  They spent almost two years working on his citizenship to finally bring him to the US so they could start their life together in Minnesota.  They moved in together in May.  Just a month later Nico was diagnosed with liver cancer and they started the battle.

They inevitably found their way to the Mayo Clinic who have been working on Nico and they are so appreciative of the efforts put in by the clinic and especially the doctors from Nico’s home country.  They have believed until recently that Nico would be a surgical candidate and they have used embolization, radiation, and numerous other treatments to help Nico.  Unfortunately, Maggie and Nico received news that Nico’s cancer had become more aggressive and that he was no longer a surgical candidate. This was devastating news. Nico’s health is currently extremely fragile and yet they have not given up hope. In the next week they hope to start immunotherapy if they can get Nico strong enough.

Maggie is now needing to be caregiving full time and which makes the situation more difficult as Maggie is the sole source of income.  Heartbroken, Maggie faces challenging caregiving for her loving husband while also facing the realization of costs related to the fight for Nico's life. In the next few months costs might be in the area of $20,000 or more no matter which direction Nico’s illness goes. She is comforted by family in Ghana who remind her and Nico that ultimately this is in God’s hands. Yet, it is possible that Maggie will need a large amount of funds quickly to help Nico in body and in spirit.

We are asking you to donate to Maggie and Nico to help them cover the complex expenses they anticipate in the next few weeks and months ahead.

Please give whatever you can for this couple who barely started their life together before tragedy struck.
