Nicole's New Lungs

Breathe in. Breathe out. You feel that? Don’t take it for granted. 


Nicole is a 23 year old from Angus Ontario who has grown up with Cystic Fibrosis. This mostly means mucus accumulates in the lungs but she looks fine on the outside. 

Inside however is a battle in her body to breathe. A simple thing we often do unconsciously. However, for Nicole this has become a struggle with degrading lungs from years of trying to expel mucus. What you don’t see is a young woman who spends her mornings and nights doing breathing treatments, and with every meal she eats, a hand full of pills is the appetizer, as the mucus coats her digestive tract and interferes with how her body absorbs essential nutrients. 

So we’ve come to a point where new lungs are needed and we’ve worked with excellent doctors to get this far. It hasn’t been easy, but Nicole has stayed determined against all odds. As her lungs degrade and need for assistance increases, her independence is being stripped from her, which is a significant part of life for anyone. Assistance is provided by her boyfriend Jonah, and her loving family. 

As we move forward, there is less time to work and more time spent back and forth from Toronto hospitals. Being from Angus it is not cheap to drive back and forth, and additionally be out of work. After transplant we will be required to stay nearby and the cost feels overwhelming. 

We are asking for your assistance to keep the bills from piling up. To let Nicole focus on getting better, getting new lungs, and allow her family to continue to provide support with less worry of financial hardship.
