Nicole Rooney & her family

Last week, on August 18th, my sister gave birth to a beautiful little girl, Emery Grace. Both mommy and baby left the hospital very healthy and happy. In the middle of the night Friday 8/24, Nicole woke up with an excruciating headache and was rushed to Northern dutchess hospital where she was then put into a medically induced coma and transferred to Vassar Brothers Medical Center ;currently in the intensive care unit. Nicole had suffered a major stroke and was hemorrhaging. The doctors discovered a 3 cm tear in the left side of her brain which In turn, affected the right side of Nicole’s body. The tear has since grown to be 3.4 cm. She is sedated and is using a ventilator to breath for her, and the doctors are making sure her blood pressure stays under 140 so the tear doesn’t grow bigger. Since the damage affects the opposite side of her body than in her brain, there is no response to using the right side of her body (but she can move her left leg and arm). Today was her other baby, Brayden’s 4th birthday and of course all he wanted was his mom. Myself and her family is raising money to cover expenses of the of her newborn Emery, and when Nicole does wake up, her rehabilitation costs which the doctors say will take months or even over a year to recover. Although we do not know the extent of which the stroke did damage, we do know that she will not be the same happy, bubbly and active mother she was before. We as a family have all come together and are all helping Ryan take care of the babies and do whatever we can, but of course we would like to reach out to our wonderful community. Prayers are always appreciated and keeping Nicole and her family in your thoughts will mean so much.
