Nicole & Ryan's IVF Journey

Donation protected
When Nicole and I met 11 years ago, we were blessed to have found our soulmates. As cliche as that sounds, if you know us, you know it’s true.

For the last 11 years we’ve dreamed of our future family: what kind of parents would we be? Will they have my green eyes? Will our daughter have Nicole’s sass? We had already decided on the names for the four babies we envisioned having.

For two years we tried to conceive. Nothing. Doctors told us, “You’re young! It’s probably stress. Just have fun!” We had a gut feeling that something was “wrong.” This summer we decided to visit a fertility center and have testing done.

On the day of our 3rd wedding anniversary, the center called with devastating news: Nicole and I are unable to have biological children, naturally.

Devastation. Tears. Confusion. Unanswered questions. This future that we had always envisioned for ourselves felt ripped away, in the middle of our anniversary celebration.

We lived with this reality for weeks. We did more testing; we had more appointments.

Finally we got good, but mixed, news: diagnosis of a genetic abnormality that renders us unable to have children, naturally. BUT there is *one* option available to us — IVF.

We are OVERJOYED to have this opportunity at a family and are meeting it with nothing short of excitement, confidence, and positivity! The only downside to this miracle opportunity for us to have children is the financial burden: IVF is not covered by insurance. Each cycle of IVF is tens of thousands of dollars, and the average couple does 3 IVF cycles before achieving pregnancy.

After endless discussions and careful consideration, we decided to be open and transparent about what we’re going through, as uncomfortable and nerve-racking as it feels. We feel like this is greater than the two of us and is too big to keep behind closed doors. Sharing something so personal and intimate is scary, but we know with conviction that you let more light in when you open the curtains.

So that is the point in sharing: our spirits need love and support to help us get through this and that can’t happen if we keep people in the dark. We want to open ourselves to anything you have on your heart or mind to offer: a positive word of encouragement, helpful resources, or even financial support. If you want to reach out, please know that you can call or text us! If you want to share any resources, send them our way. If you have it on your heart to contribute financially, we’ve set up this GoFundMe to allow an avenue to do so.

We know that 2020 has been the worst year *ever* and that this situation doesn’t rank on the scale of importance to others. It’s terrible timing to have to do this treatment during a pandemic, however, the doctors advise that for the health of Nicole and our potential baby, it's imperative we start treatment as soon as possible. We graciously and humbly welcome any support or encouragement you have to offer.

With love and gratitude, The Olivers
