In the Fall of 2013 Nick developed dizziness with constant ringing in his right ear. He was told it was most likely a case of vertigo. After months of disappointing doctor appointments, he was finally diagnosed with a benign tumor called an Acoustic Neuroma. This type of growth develops from the balance and hearing nerve in the ear and grows into the brain cavity where it ultimately compresses several nerves and the brain stem. Pressure from the tumor caused him to have unsteadiness and ringing in his ear which eventually lead to hearing loss. Nick underwent surgery in January of 2015 in New York City and started his road to recovery.
The past couple years seemed to be looking up, but on his two year post-surgery checkup the doctor revealed his tumor had grown back and was just as large. Without treatment, the growth will continue to impact the brain stem, optic nerve, and facial nerve among others. This can lead to a series of functional issues including vision, facial paralysis, along with several other potential deficits. Nick is now preparing for his second surgery and could use all the prayers and support he can get.
He will be flying to Keck Medical Center at USC in California for a second surgery to remove the tumor once again. If not enough of the tumor is removed during this surgery, radiation will be used to kill any residual cells.
