Nickolis Remembrance

Donation protected
Veterans day is meant to be a day we honor those who live that served through the trials and tribulations the military placed them in.

Although today I will be honoring someone  we lost several years ago.

Nickoli was someone who many would call a friend. He took the oath and served in the military as very few do. He went overseas and fulfilled his responsibilities as any serviceman would.  He was a beloved husband, father, and friend.

Through his journey he began acquiring demons that would whisper in his ear. Run their fingers along the scars left from the world to remind him of the past transgressions and tell him there is an easier way than living. It creates an illusion of an escape, but in reality only leading to nothing except a void that takes pieces from the souls of everyone that knew him.

The voices stopped when he took his own life in June of 2013.

As many of you know there are certain disqualifications to receiving benefits of a fallen soldier when they do this.  I don’t believe any of the money due was given because he took his own life and hence the reason why I am starting this page.

This week I learned that Nickoli bears no stone above his grave and no indication to who he was as a person.  Only the grass lays above his grave with a nameless tag that sits over him.

Hearing this filled me with so much pain, because we have nothing to commemorate a fallen marine. There is nothing to show how great of a human being he was and to discern him from another patch of grass in the cemetery.

I started this page to ensure that he is properly attended to. I want to get him a stone that will help depict who he is as a person and ensure that those who wish to remember him will have something physical and memorable to pay tribute to in his memory.

They say that the cemeteries aren't truly meant for the dead, but for the living who wish to remember them. I will ensure that they have something to memorialize him and have something that will stand above him in perpetuity.

You're never alone in this world and you will never be forgotten.
