Overcoming Hurricane Irma

Donation protected
Many people have been deeply impacted by Hurricane Irma. Florida communities are now realizing what devastaing loses have been suffered and are just starting to think about recovering and rebuilding.

My nephew Nick Borraccino and his family are one of these families facing difficult times. Their home is located in Marathon Key and was in the direct path of the hurricane.  They have been displaced from their home but are safe and are currently staying with family in Massachusetts.

Nick and Jessica have spent the last several years working on their home in the Keys to get it ready for a family.  They recently welcomed a baby girl into their family, Isla Hazel.  Isla was days old when they found out the news of the impending hurricane.  Just after being released from the hospital they had to make the difficult decision on what items were most important to take with them as they left their home to keep their family safe, while wondering and worrying what there would be to return to.  They traveled for hours in a truck carrying their family including days old Isla, 3 dogs and what little belongings they could bring with them.

They have been collecting information about the affects of the hurricane on their home and community.  They have learned that there was significant damage to their home due to high winds, falling trees and water damage. Many, if not all of their personal belongings have been destroyed and will need to be replaced.

Facing these circumstances  for all those affected by these recent natural disasters is extremely stressful. However to exacerbate things for Nick's family, they are doing all of this with a newborn baby and a new mom recovering from surgery.  The impacts have not only affected their home and belongings but will also have a long-term impact on their livelyhood.  It's said that this will impact tourism in the Keys for at least a year, potentially longer.  Nick and Jessica rely soley on this as a means to provide for their family, as Nick is a private charter fisherman in the Keys and his wife, Jessica, runs a rental real estate agency.

Nick has always been a kind hearted, fun loving guy that is always there for family and friends.  Anytime you ask him for help, he'd be there in a minute and do whatever he could to help others.  Now that he and his family are in need, I'm asking for your help!

Please consider donating to this GoFundMe page to support Nick, Jessica, and Isla as they start to rebuild their home and their life in the Marathon. Funds will go towards purchasing food, clothing, necessities for the baby and replacing personal belongings.

Sincerely,
Doreen & Andy Borraccino
