”In June 2020 David was diagnosed with Evan‘s Syndrome. Evan’s Syndrome is a rare autoimmune blood disorder that effects 1.2 children per million. Evan’s Syndrome is when two blood cell lines are compromised within a 6 month period of time. He has ITP and Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia. It is basically when a person’s body attacks and destroys its own red blood cells.

On October 6, 2020 David began to get sick with a fever topping out at 104.2 and this lasted a week until he was admitted to the hospital on October 12, 2020. Once admitted David made a very rapid decline and was to the point of being lifeless. David was immediately given a blood transfusion to stabilize him. Mistakenly, David was released from the hospital on October 13, 2020 believing that he would be able to control the red blood cell destruction until the following morning but this was not the case. David’s mom rushed him back to the hospital 4 hours after they left with David barely hanging onto life. David was immediately brought into the trauma unit where several doctors assisted and moved David to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. With David’s blood cells at a critical level, David received 3 more blood transfusions back to back to stabilize him.

David is still in the hospital and it is unknown when he is getting out. He has received 11 blood transfusions so far, 2 chest X-rays, surgery for an immediate access point due to the amount of medications and blood transfusions, and a list that’s a mile long. David has begun chemotherapy to destroy parts of his body that are attacking itself. Additionally David is receiving a multitude of other treatments so that he doesn’t get to the critical level again.

Due to the type of treatment that David is receiving his insurance only covers a small portion of the costs. With every blood transfusion costing around $4,000 and chemotherapy at $10,000 per round, it’s going to be a long road ahead for the family. Just on a phone call to the insurance the estimated cost was in the $200,000 - $250,000 range. David will be in the hospital until he is able to remain stable for an extended period of time and will have to continue chemotherapy when he leaves.

David is a sweet boy that is full of happiness and life. He is fighting for his life right now and his parents are doing everything that they can to be by his side. His mother is having to take leave from work so that she doesn’t leave him for even a second.  His mother is a police officer and gives her all into the community.

I am looking for any assistance to help relieve them from this financial burden so that they can just focus on him. Thank you for any help.”
