In Loving Memory of Nick Herrmann

My name is Griffin Jimenez, a close family friend of the Herrmanns and a basketball coach at Nick's favorite place on earth: Torrey Pines High School. Like so many of you, Nick has made an imprint on my life in immeasurable ways. Sadly, on August 6th, 2022, he lost his battle with Osteosarcoma, but not before he gave us memories that will last a lifetime.

We will miss his unparalleled work ethic, welcoming smile, incredible sense of humor, and the love he had for his family and friends. Over the coming weeks, we will share ways to celebrate and help continue his legacy (including a scholarship fund in his name that is separate from this GoFundMe). Right now, our main priority is ensuring that Nick gets the proper send-off and celebration of his remarkable life.

Unfortunately, that comes at a significant cost. This is something we can all agree his mother shouldn't have to put any of her own money towards. Nick has given so much to us - now it's time we give back to the most important person in his life: his mom Nicole.

My goal is that you will join me - and so many others across our community - in helping to cover the cost of Nick's funeral and celebration of life.

Additionally, if you have had the fortune of getting to know Nicole as I have, you know she is a Saint, the family's rock, a loving caretaker to Nick, and an overall incredible human being. However, to be there to care for Nick over the last few months as his condition worsened, she had to give up work (as a Rady's Children's Hospital nurse, no less). The secondary goal of this GoFundMe is to help ease some of the financial burdens of the last few months as well as give her as much time away from work as she needs to recover from this tragic loss. We hope she can spend a few weeks with her daughter, Anna, in New York as she begins her sophomore year at NYU. They deserve to be together during this difficult time. No mother or daughter should have to bury their son/brother at an early age, especially with so much left to give in life as Nick did.

Lastly: Nick's sister, Anna, and I have designed a limited amount of cardinal and gold "Fight Like Nick" bracelets in his honor that will be shipped to me by August 19th. If you donated and would like a bracelet, please send me a screenshot of your donation and put a shipping address in the body of the email to griffinjimenez at gmail dot com .

If you have any questions about the GoFundMe or anything else, feel free to reach out via email (griffinjimenez at gmail dot com) or phone (619-884-3015).
