Many of you already know my son Nick but for those that don’t, I’d like to introduce him to you and explain his urgent need for a home generator.
Nick has been battling brain tumors most of his life. He has gone through several brain surgeries, infusion treatments, and rehabilitative therapies. We were told at the beginning of last year that the brain tumors which were benign for so long had turned very aggressive requiring even more treatment.
Nick just turned 25 yrs old in April and has been fighting a good strong fight against these brain tumors while keeping his Faith and Love of God strong at all times, overcoming every obstacle that has ever been put in his way and never complaining about anything at all even with all of the challenges, struggles, and discomfort he has been through. Nick continues to amaze his doctors time after time overcoming what they didn't think possible.
Nick has spent the majority of his life serving God and our community. Some of these areas include teaching Religious Ed to kids in junior high, being a part of the Confirmation Retreat Team, Lifeteen Group Leader for high school kids, 4th degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, Lector, Volunteer for St. Vincent de Paul, and in the community he taught martial arts self defense to kids 4-18 yrs as well as adults.
Nick has always been there helping others with a Big Smile and his Loving, Caring and Generous heart never expecting anything in return. But now, he’s in desperate need of help and I am coming to you as a very concerned mom who loves my son more than words can ever describe and am basically racing against the clock to raise the money to be able to install a permanent generator that wires into our home to keep his medical equipment including oxygen, monitors, and bed powered up in the event of a power outage.
Last month we experienced an unexpected power outage which was extremely terrifying as we were not at all prepared. We immediately put Nick on oxygen tanks not knowing how long they would last or when the company could bring more out to us. His hospital bed mattress deflated forcing him to sink into it and cutoff his air supply and I had to hold his head up until our neighbor brought us a portable Generator from their work so we could power up his medical equipment and bed.
With PG&E stating they are planning to shut down our power for 2-5 days (maybe even on more than one occasion), we must take steps to ensure Nick’s safety. A regular generator requires gasoline to operate which will not be available once the power is shutdown as gas stations will not be operable and once the gasoline on hand is used up the generator will not run and Nick’s equipment will shut down, basically making it impossible to keep him alive.
We have reviewed all available options and have been advised that the best solution is to install a “permanent generator” which connects to the natural gas of our home and takes over as soon as it detects a power outage, This will keep Nick’s medical equipment operating, bed inflated and air conditioning on at all times ensuring Nick’s safety.
The cost of this unit, material and labor is $13,800 which we are not able to pay totally on our own since we have so many medical bills and other monthly medical expenses that our insurance does not cover. We need to be able to raise this money quickly and get this generator installed right away in order to protect Nick’s life because PG&E can shut the power down at any time and has already started doing it in different cities. We already have the permit and the company is ready to install the generator for us in a few days. Now we just need to raise the money.
If you are able to help us by making a donation in any amount we would be so very grateful! Prayers are also very much needed and appreciated. We would also like to ask that you share this page with all of your friends, family, co-workers etc.
