It was with great shock and sadness that we announced the passing of Nick.
We have been showered with love and condolences. We want to thank everyone. We have also had questions, of how, why, what happened and what can we do to help?
We as a family cannot live without knowing what caused Nicks death. He didn’t deserve to die after begging doctors to help him for the last 7 months.
Nicks Primary care doctor would not sign his death certificate and requested an autopsy after telling us that in her opinion NICK NEVER SHOULD HAVE DIED, that the medical system failed him.
The local medical examiner requested an autopsy be performed after hearing Nicks history of the past few months and speaking with his primary doctor. The City of Raleigh declined the autopsy as they have a small budget for autopsy’s and they use it for homicides and suspected murders. Some paper pusher in Raleigh who has never even laid eyes on Nick’s body decided that the cause of death was Osteogenesis imperfecta also known as brittle bone disease.
How do you die from brittle bone disease?!? YOU DON'T.
There is no way to appeal and receive an autopsy. We need a private autopsy done to know how my brother died and what they missed.
Most of you know that we have spent every spare penny we have in making our homes structurally handicap accessible for Nick, buying handicap ramps, a used wheelchair van to transport him, taking him to and from doctors in Maryland, doctors down here, hospital stays in Maryland and down here, medications the list goes on. We have devoted our lives to him.
We are point blank asking for your help. If you know my parents, they don’t ever ask for help. Due to Nick's health conditions he was unable to have life insurance and his death benefit from social security is $225.00.
If you loved Nick, If he made you laugh, if Nick, either of my parents, my sister and or I has EVER done ANYTHING for you, PLEASE help do this for us. We need to know what they missed and why he died. It won’t bring him back but we will know why.
The cost of a Private medical autopsy is $5,500.00. The Cost to Transport him there and back is $1,000. The cost to the funeral home and to cremate him is another $2,100.00. We expect the Memorials to run about $2,000.00. There are also outstanding medical bills to come.
