Nic Larsen's Pole Vaulting Accident

Donation protected
On April 24th Nic was in critical condition and fighting for his life. He was at pole vaulting practice getting ready for Regionals when he partially missed the mat during a vault and hit his head on the concrete surrounding the mat. Nic was going in and out of consciousness and having seizures after the fall when his teammate called 911, Nic was rushed in an ambulance to the Renaissance Hospital in Edinburg, TX, and quickly received an emergency craniectomy and brain surgery.

The doctors did an amazing job of saving his life! They had to remove a small portion of his brain, address bleeding and hematomas, and massive swelling of the brain. They kept him in a medically induced coma for the first few days and in a special Nero ICU for over a week. The swelling of his brain is still pretty severe and he has been given a helmet to wear until the neurosurgeon ok's his skull bone to be placed back.

Before the accident, Nic planned to go to his senior prom, go to regionals, graduate high school with his associate's degree, serve a mission in Sweden in July, and then go into the medical field. This is going to be a long Journey for Nic. Now that we know he is going to live we are focusing on helping him on his recovery! We won't know the lasting effects of his injury and surgery for some time, so we are creating this GoFundMe to help Nic cover the costs and long term effects of the accident and surgery.  As well as help cover the cost of his rehabilitation and therapy. We want to help him so he can focus on his recovery! The community support from his coaches, friends, fellow athletes and stranger has been amazing. Thank you so very much!
