Amy's Army

Donation protected
In August 2014, Amy's life had sudden tragic change, and with that so did all of ours. At the age of 35, Amy became another young victim of a Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD) causing a massive heart attack that imminently threatened her life. Luckily, in Amy's case, she was swiftly taken to Strong Memorial Hospital, where she underwent emergent cardiac bypass surgery in order to save her life and restore circulation to her heart.

Blessed by the many prayers, and the overwhelming support of her church community, caring friends and family, Amy began the healing and recovery process this past Fall. She was slowly able to transition back into life as a mother to her young twins Gillian and Griffin.  She accomplished this with her devoted husband Dave and entire family by her side.

As in many cases of SCAD, the actual cause of Amy's heart condition is still unknown. Researchers are actively studying SCAD to learn more about the causes, predisposing factors, and possible prevention strategies. Despite the amazing efforts by the cardiac surgeons and medical teams at Strong,  Amy's heart is now left with significantly reduced function, limiting her physical capabilities. At this point, her doctors recommend that she have an evaluation and possibly further treatment for her condition with renowned researchers at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. What makes this opportunity all the more amazing is that Amy will also have an opportunity to be a part of the actual research for the condition that nearly ended her life.

There certainly has not been a shortage of support and community throughout this process. The challenges that remain at this point are a result of excessive medical bills, and Amy's 5 month absence from work during her recovery. The purpose of this GoFund me account is to raise money for Amy and her family to travel to The Mayo Clinic specialists to undergo further necessary testing and treatment. On behalf of Amy and her family, we thank you in advance for your contributions. We hope through this fundraiser, the remaining challenges can be alleviated allowing for peace within Amy and amongst her family and that a heightened awareness be raised for the victims of SCAD .

With gratitude,
Gina and Ali
