Hachi's attack fund

Donation protected
February 27th at 3:45pm, my 4 year old Shiba Inu 'Hachi' insisted upon a walk as I had just got home from work. We have a regular route we take through our quiet little neighborhood. Suddenly I saw a fence piece lift from a backyard and out came a stocky grey Pit-bull running straight toward my dog and viciously attacked. The dog had my dog instantly on the ground by the throat and was visibly trying to kill him. I fought with all my night and screamed for what felt like an eternity trying to get help. In the end, a young man came running out of the house and pulled the Pit-bull away and put it in the house, myself and my dog now badly injured. The young man then rushed us to the Emergency Vet. Hachi was nearly killed! He underwent surgery immediately. I was rushed to the ER.
My hand was badly injured in the attack and it was decided I must have reconstructive surgery as my finger is badly broken.
The dog remains at home, supposedly quarantined yet running freely as if it had done no harm.
Neighbors frantically reinforcing their fences as just on the backside of the fence is a daycare. But this is a whole other topic.
Bottom line is I would never ask for help, unless completely scared, and that I am. The vet bill alone was just under $700 , that was just the first bill. He has meds, so far 2 return visits scheduled.
I was in the ER, IV antibiotics, pain meds, X Rays and now to come surgery. Missing work is my fear, as the owner is a young man in school with 'no money' he states and no offering to take responsibility.
