Help for my son

This isn't a story about me. I do need to provide a bit of background though so you know why my son is such a champ and why I'm here asking for financial help for him.

I'm asking for $120 because Daniel had his wallet stolen yesterday, and that's about as much as he had in it.

He's fourteen and has been my registered carer since he was six. It shouldn't be this way; I should be looking after him, but I have mould disease. It's destroyed my life and my future and my future earning capacity, so it's been devastating for Daniel. He doesn't really understand that though as this has been his normal since he was six.

I'm also a single parent with no family and no other support. We rely on welfare, for which I'm very grateful as, without it, we'd be out on the street.  Being on welfare though means I cant afford another rental and being on welfare also means no other landlord in these past several years has even considered my application. We're stuck in the same home that's making me ill, and we can't move because I can't work, and I can't work because we can't move. It's a massive double edged sword.

The point of telling you all this is that, despite all this layering of hardship and loss, Daniel is a champ. Like, a major MAJOR champ. Never complains, never fusses, and is actually grateful for the things he does have. I worry about peer pressure and the right shoes and the fact that he has two buck ear phones from Coles when he friends have squillion dollar earpods and the latest Nikes. He tells me he's fine with all that, and maybe he is, or maybe he's just so used to looking after me and precious potato peelings.

Daniel just had a birthday and of course, it was Christmas two days ago, and he was given money, some to pay for a camp next week, the rest to spent how he sees fit. The sales were on yesterday so he went into town. We don't have wi-fi so he also wanted to have his brain sucked out of his eyeballs* at an internet cafe. He told me later he'd also wanted to buy me a picture frame (He drew me a version of Van Gough's Starry Night for Christmas. I can upload it later if anyone's interested  :)  )

He caught the train in on his own and met a friend there. The internet cafe was their first stop, but while he was there, his wallet was stolen.

He's devastated, I'm devastated for him.

He's wrestling with feelings too big for him he to describe, some of loss, others because I told him to take only a fifty, but he took all of it instead, as well a gift card from his best friend, so I'm also torn between guilting him to death with the I Told You So, What We're You Thinking??  lectures (which I'm not doing [yet] for I am mighty) and wrestling with the Tortuous Feels in solidarity

To other people, it might be "only" $127, but for him -  to us - it's a boatload of money that would provide him opportunities to be like his friends every now and again; For a Christian camp where having little doesn't matter. A bought school lunch instead of a sandwich from home, or a movie at the cinema instead of waiting for it to get to the library on dvd . Small stuff, but BIG stuff.

He's a good kid, and all I really want out of this is for people to know just how good he is. As I write, I realise I'm not actually asking for money despite this being a sob story left on a crowd funding website. I don't talk about our situation much because I'm ashamed, so choosing to tell all on a world platform is a lot out of character and really flippin' uncomfortable.

Daniel's only got me to look out for and after him though, and I'm a physically frail, wuss of a mother. I guess what I'm hoping for here is for people to read this far and think well of my son, and to remind him of the great capacity the world has for kindness. If anyone does read this far, don't worry about donating. If you could please though leave him a message of love, encouragement, support, that'd be dandy and I'll be truly grateful - and should you need the power of love sent your way, leave a message and I'll keep you in my prayers.

Thank you.
