My name is Rasheeda Jones and I am 24-year-old, full time Social Work grad student at Clark Atlanta University. On February 27, 2015, I was awarded the opportunity of a lifetime and selected to study abroad for summer 2015 at Cape Town University in South Africa.
My objective for studying at the University of Cape Town is imperative to my individual and career goals. My community work experience and compassion to help others have influenced my desire to study abroad. As a social work graduate student I value the significance of being culturally competent, diverse, educated, and experienced while entering into a helping profession. Many college students observe and learn about other cultures and social issues but rarely get a full understanding until they personally visit and get to first-hand experience life oversees. My ultimate goal is to be able to come home with the knowledge that I have obtained and share it in hopes of uplifting the youth and young adults in my communities.
At the University of Cape Town I will participate in 2 community development/ engagement & theory courses as it pertains to South Africa’s population. I also have committed to volunteer over 100 hours of community service at a local orphanage.
Unfortunately, I was unable to receive a full scholarship to study abroad so I am humbly asking for a generous donation of any amount. Your assistance will definitely contribute to a dream come true.
All Donations will assist with the remaining balance of tuition, room & board, and air fair.
