Pray for Kinsley

Donation protected
Kinsley is a 15-year-old sophomore in the small town of Williamsburg, Iowa. On September 21, she was involved in a terrible car accident. Kinsley was immediately Life Flighted to the University of Iowa Hospital, where she was admitted to the PICU in critical condition with a traumatic brain injury.

For days her parents were by her side in the hospital room, just waiting and hoping for a glimmer of hope. Minutes turned into hours; hours turned into days; days turned into weeks. Kinsley would eventually open her eyes, although she was unable to communicate as she could neither walk or talk and had limited mobility.

After 19 days in the PICU, she was finally stabilized enough to be moved out of intensive care. She then underwent surgery and was able to begin PT/OT. At that point, the family could breathe a sigh of relief as Kinsley was no longer in a life-threatening condition.

After 29 days in the hospital, doctors recommended she be moved to an acute-care medical and physical rehabilitation center. Of the three closest facilities, only Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Omaha had capacity. Madonna specializes in rehabilitating patients who have suffered a stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury, or other conditions stemming from traumatic events. Patients and families nationwide seek out Madonna for their ability to handle cases of varying complexity.

On October 28th, Kinsley was transported by ambulance to Omaha. Currently, she is in stable condition but has a long road to recovery. She will need to learn to talk and function again just to finish high school, let alone compete again in sports. Through all this her parents have kept the faith ....below is their message to all who have supported the family through this traumatic event.

"We are incredibly blessed that she is still here with us! The prayers, calls, texts, messages, outpouring love and support to our family is truly amazing and means the world to us!"

As you can imagine, the financial impact of a situation like this can be devastating for a family. Hospital costs alone can add up to hundreds of thousands of dollars. This page was created to ease the financial burden and offer support to the family, so they can focus on Kinsley's recovery.
