First of all, all three of us (Chris, Courtney, and Baby Brodie), appreciate every person who gives to our family. We can't thank you enough for all your love and support. This journey is a continual walk of faith and we choose daily to be thankful for you.

Chris was recently diagnosed with a very severe case of Congenital Hip Dysplasia.  He saw a doctor here in the Reno area, and it was determined very quickly that surgery would be his only option. The doctor referred Chris to another surgeon in Seattle Washington to perform a surgery that is only performed by three surgeons in the United States. We recently went to Seattle and found that Chris was a candidate for the surgery and will be receiving surgery on April 21, 2015.

This surgery is a very complicated procedure that will be the first step in a long line of surgeries. During this surgery, the Dr will be removing the entire acetabulum (hip socket) from Chris's pelvis and repositioning it in the pelvis at the correct angle. The angle correction is approx 30 degrees. His pelvis will than be held together with screws and other hardware. The amount of correction being done on Chris is the most severe amount allotted to be considered a safe procedure. However there are still many risks to the procedure. Those risks include, nerve damage, nerve paralysis, excessive blood loss, and blood clots. The recovery will be many months long and Chris will never fully be able to enjoy life the same way. He will not be allowed to do anything with high impact. After Chris recovers from this first surgery, he will need to have the same surgery on the other hip within the next 1-2 years. Both of these surgeries will set him up to have successful hip replacement surgeries within the next 10-15 years.

Since the surgery is in Seattle Washington, our insurance is not accepting this doctor as an in network doctor at this point. We will have to pay out of pocket a maximum of 50% of all TOTAL medical bills or a minimum of 25% of TOTAL bills depending on what the insurance approves. This includes all doctors fees, hospital stay, operating room, anesthesia, medications and ANY OTHER MEDICAL RELATED things.  Either way, we are looking at having thousands and thousands of dollars in medical bills that we cant afford. We also will have to travel to and from Washington. While in Seattle, we will need food, lodging, transportation ect. We have family members that will be there to help care for Brodie and be our emotional support which is a huge blessing we cant repay.

Chris will be out of his work for a minimum 2 months but wont be able to work heavy construction for AT LEAST 6 months. He has no disabilty through his work. He will be able to work slowly at first, few hours at a time, and mostly just on the computer. Courtney is working a job currently but does not have guarenteed hours and therefore does not make enough to support the family. With that being said, on top of medical and travel expenses, we will need money to just live as Chris recovers. Any money that is not used for this initial surgery will be saved and put toward the next surgery and travel expenses within the next 2 years. We will also need to fly back to Seattle for follow up visits over the course of the year.

All that being said, we already have such a blessing in our friends and family surrounding us in this difficult time. We could not get through this without God's strength, and the strength of the many people around us fighting our battles with us. Thank you all for your love and support. There are no words.
