Joe Foot Mobility Fund - New Assistance Needed

UPDATE 5/23/19: Joe asked me to post this to his GOFUNDME sight.  He is again in need of assistance.

I want to start by again thanking everyone that contributed to me getting a van.  Because of that I’ve been able to go to physical therapy and I am now walking for short periods with a two-handed walker. To have gone from using the wheelchair with my head and now to walking for only a short time is a miracle.  The doctors said I would never walk and I’m proving them wrong.  I am determined to continue to improve and have put in great effort the last 4 ½ years to that end.

While I can walk with the walker for a short time, the doctors have recommended that a walking device, Second Step Gait Harness System, would give me additional independence and help me gain endurance and strength. This unit would keep me on my feet and gives me the ability to rest if my legs give out.  Now all I do is walk with a two-handed walker and then get back in my wheelchair and sit the rest of the day.  With this unit I would be able to walk rest and walk again eliminating being stagnant in the wheelchair.

The device is expensive.  I have tried to find other gait walkers that will do what this one will do and have looked for used devices with no luck.

The list price is $7,358 less a 15% discount from Second Step, for a net cost of $6,254.  I have been able to secure a grant from NorCal Spinal Cord Injury organization of $2,000.  This leaves me with a cost of $4,254. Due to my injury and my inability to work I don’t have this type of money to make this purchase and proceed with my healing.  This is very frustrating knowing that there is something out there that can help you but you’re unable to attain it.

I would appreciate any assistance you can give to help me obtain the goal of $4,254 to attain the Second Step Gait Harness System.  You can find information about the device at Second Step Gait Systems - - 877-299-STEP (7837).

I would also be more than happy to send you videos and progress reports on myself with the use of this unit.

I thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

UPDATE 3/12/15:
Thanks to the generosity of many people our goal has been meet and Joe now has the mobility he needs via 2002 Dodge Caravan handicap van!  Any excess funds or additional contributions will be use for inhome care to relieve Dawn who has selflessly taken care of Joe 24/7 since his release from rehab on February 4.

Again, thanks you to all those who contributed to this success story!

This guy needs our help most will know Joe Foot was in a tragic accident on December 13, 2014.  The injuries he sustained as a passenger have left him a quadriplegic.   While there is hope that some movement may return, it will not come without extensive physical therapy and hard work on the part of Joe.

Joe is now home from the hospital and his rehab center stay.  While many have assisted in getting the house in Bodega Bay handicap accessable, the issue Joe is facing is mobility.  He is confined to a wheelchair and needs a handicap van in order to be transported to his very important physical therapy appoints crutial to any recovery.

Joe's resources are limited.  He needs our help to raise funds to purchase a handicap van so that he can regain as much independence as possible and receive the care he very much needs.

Any help you can give will be forever appreciated!
