Help bring Danny home

Donation protected
Almost ten years ago at the age of 19, my little brother Danny was involved in a hit and run motorcycle accident that broke his neck, stole his ability to use his arms and legs, and confined him to a wheelchair forever.
It has been a difficult and expensive road the last nine plus years keeping Danny healthy and well cared for, but with the strength of our other two brothers, a very dedicated and loving mother and father, and the help and support of other family and wonderful friends, we have been able to meet his many needs.
After being restricted to a very close proximity of our parent’s home since the accident occurred, Danny was able to save enough money to take a well-deserved vacation.  He decided to go to Las Vegas to meet some good friends and he invited me and our other brothers to come along for the first vacation all together in decades.

We flew out to Vegas and stuffed as many good memories as we could into three days. On our last day in Vegas our oldest brother Andy had an early flight back to Colorado to continue his work with the Air Force.  Kevin, Danny, and I started our preparations to fly back a little later that morning when all of a sudden Danny stopped responding.  He lost control of his eyes and couldn’t speak.  Fearing a stroke, we immediately called 911 and had Danny taken to the nearest hospital.

The ER doctors did many tests and found that Danny had a very bad infection and started him on the strongest antibiotics available.  Danny was given a room in the intermediate care unit.  Although the antibiotics should have cleared up the infection, Danny’s symptoms continued to get worse.  He continued to be unresponsive and his blood platelets were dangerously low and dropping.  He was given a transfusion, which helped, but soon his blood pressure plummeted and he was rushed to the ICU.  He was then put on medication to fix the blood pressure, but shortly after he began to lose oxygen in his blood and had to be intubated.

I spent three days and nights with Danny in the hospital to make sure he was receiving the best care possible and so that if he woke up, he would see a familiar face.  Andy then flew back to Vegas from Colorado and our Dad flew from Tampa to take over so I could get back to my wife and 8 month old daughter.

Our family has already spent thousands of dollars in flights, rental cars, and hotels and so now we are raising money to get Danny flown back to Tampa on a special ambulance plane.  We need him back in the hospital where his own doctors can give him the care that he needs to get better.  Although the doctors in Vegas are doing their best, they do not have enough experience taking care of quadriplegic patients and their specific needs.  We believe that Danny can recover fully, but only if he can get the best care that can only be given by doctors that know Danny and his specific case.

Please help us get our little brother back to Tampa where he can have the best chance to recover surrounded by family and friends.
