Millie’s Road to Recovery

Donation protected

On December 19th late afternoon, my brother in-law and I went for a four wheeler ride down on Lake Geneva in Keystone Heights. Somehow, by the grace of God, I glanced over and saw the sweetest little brown down staring at me, ears perked. She was tucked away in a patch of tall grass. As we approached her, her tail was wagging but her body was limp and her paws mangled. I got her to the nearest pet ER the next morning. The vet tech asked if I was going to be financially responsible, as this pet ER does not take in strays.. After a quick phone call to my husband, I told them “yes.. do whatever needs to be done”. If one of my dogs got lost/hurt I would hope that someone would do the same. It was just the right thing to do. After an 8 hour ER visit, the worst of her injuries is a dislocated hip that will need surgical intervention. The Veterinarian told me she is approximately 1 year old. She also said she suspects the dog was hit by a car and probably dumped in this remote location, because it would’ve been impossible for her to run all the way here from the nearest road. She was laying in the freezing cold for at least 24 hours. They kept asking me for her name, I kept saying I don’t know. Finally they said I needed to come up with something, and I blurted out “Millie”. ‍♀️

I know it’s Christmas time, and we’ve all spent way too much this year. I know this year has been so hard on everyone, and I know I’m asking you to help a random dog. But this dog wasn’t random. I wasn’t supposed to find her. But she had the strength to lift her head and catch my eye... All the employees at the vet were calling her a “Christmas Miracle”. Please, even if it’s a dollar, help me save my Christmas Miracle. I pray that there is someone looking for her out there, she seems to be loved. But know that she is also very loved here too. No one plans for these kind of things, and I can’t say no to helping save a dog as strong and sweet as her. This surgery is time sensitive... and I could really use your help this Christmas to save this innocent pup’s life.

Thank You,
Caitlin
