My name is Susannah Chantry, I am a Junior at Cusick Jr Sr High School, and writing is my foremost passion. I hope to one day utilize this passion in a way that will allow me to make a positive difference in the world. I have been granted the amazing opportunity to attend The School of The New York Times Summer Academy! It is here that I can hone my writing skills and learn how to effectively accomplish my goal of making a difference with my writing! However, everything comes at a price, and I am in need of funds.
I believe that, when utilized correctly, words/writing have the power to change the world. With just 26 letters I can formulate words and put into writing life-altering, world-changing ideas, beliefs, thoughts, truths and so much more. Writing gives me the ability to evoke emotion, alter opinions, change lives, expose deception, usurp corruption, preserve history, and help those in need.
I feel like the power of writing has been made evident by the fear it has evoked in corrupt organizations and governments. For example, Khalil Gibran was exiled from his home country, Lebanon, due to his controversial writing, and during World War II Nazis destroyed Jewish books/script in an attempt to eradicate Jewish culture and history. I am blessed to live in a country where I will not be exiled or punished for making my voice heard and standing up for what is right, I am fortunate to have the ability to preserve my history and my culture, and I fully intend to do all of these things through my writing.
I am now tasked with acquiring the funds to pay for Tuition and other expensed for The School of The New York Times Summer Academy. This is where you come in, I have come to you to request funding/sponsorship. This program is a two-week intensive course that will begin June 10th and end June 22nd, it is held in New York City at The School of The New York Times. The program will provide housing and meals for the duration of my stay. Tuition will cost $5,750, material fees will be approximately $200, and airfare will be approximately $300, coming to a total of $6,250. And I have already been granted $2,250 through financial aid. Tuition can be paid in the form of 3 installments, which includes a $1,500 down payment. Full tuition must be paid by Sunday, April 1st.
