I visited Siem Reap, Cambodia in January 2017. For 10 days, I taught at New Dreams Cambodia Kids. At the moment, the school runs weekdays out of the family home of Voeun Kimlean. Up to 65 children attend every day to learn English and to eat a healthy meal. For the past several years Kimlean and his supporters have volunteered to run this school with their own earnings. I have never met such a hard-working group of people.

I know you are thinking "There are a ton of worthy causes in Canada! Why this?”

WHY New Dreams Cambodia Kids:

This is an opportunity for you to change the lives of so many children, for much less than you would spend on a vacation or a car.

This good can be done anywhere but in Siem Reap your dollar makes a HUGE difference. You will be giving young kids an amazing opportunity. They will be able to teach English and/or get a job in the legitimate tourist industry (rather than the sex trade industry)

The cost of everything there is a fraction of what it is in Canada, building a school here would cost over $5 million dollars!

COSTS:

Land: The total cost to buy the land outright is $20,000 USD. $2000 USD has been PAID.

Charity License: $2500 Application approved by the head of Vihea Chen Village, Siem Reap, Cambodia and sent to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport of the Cambodian People's Party (4 weeks to approve).

Fundraising Website: $500 to build a website so that is easier for travellers to register to volunteer and fundraise after their experience.

Build: Under $6,000 for concrete for foundation, water pump, toilet, sink and kitchen area, three large classrooms and lighting. Volunteers will build with the assistance of a skilled builder or general contractor.

Supplies: Classroom furniture, whiteboards, pens, pencils, notebooks, a couple of computers. Some of which, has already been purchased for the current school.

Teachers: Three full-time teachers will be hired to run the school 7:00-10:30 and 13:00 -16:30. Salary estimated at $200-300 per month. (The school currently has 1 full-time teacher employed)

Food: Kimlean is currently spending $600 per month to feed 65 children 5 days a week. Estimated cost for 90 children $900 per month. Meals are served at lunch time to keep children engaged in learning.

Education Plan:
Three classrooms with 30 students per class
Ages: 6-9, 9-12 & 12-16.
Professionally qualified teachers to devise education plan for the year. They currently have a volunteer ESL Teacher drafting up the curriculum for the school. The curriculum will be complete in April 2018.

GOAL:

Meeting the needs of every individual child using a holistic approach. The end goal is for every child to be proficient in English in order to secure them a career in tourism, hospitality or teaching English.

THIS WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE WITHOUT YOUR HELP!!!
